Dear Mom, This Is How I Feel After A Day At The Preschool

After a day at preschool, children will have all kinds of things on their minds, but they might not be able to put them into words. However, this is what they are trying to say.

Dear Mommy,

After a long day at preschool, there's nothing I look forward to more than be able to see you again. I knew that you would come for me, but I didn't know when. Time seems to go by so slowly. I kept thinking the day would never end. I became upset, but as soon as I saw you, it all went away. You make me feel so special and I love you so much.

I want to feel the quiet at home

I know it might seem strange, considering how loud I am, but sometimes I want peace and quiet too. I get exhausted just like you do, especially at preschool. There's so much to do and so many people to talk to. Activities are so much fun and I love playing with all my friends. Now, I want to just slow down.

When we get home, I would like for it to be as quiet as possible. I already had a nap, but I still need some time to rest. Too much noise at once will be hard. I want to go to our house because it makes me feel good. I really miss my room and our pets. I miss how our house smells too.

There's so much you want to ask me, and so much I want to ask you. I promise you that in a couple of hours, I'll be ready to tell you more and ask all kinds of questions. You do a really good job of answering my questions, even when I ask a lot.

Can I get some TV time, please?

This was a very exciting day. I learned how there are other planets and we were read a story about a puppy. I got to use fingerpaints and played tag with my friends. I was never made "it!" Right now, there's nothing I would like better than to watch some TV, as long as it's not too noisy.

I promise I won't watch too much. It'll just be nice to sit in one place for a little bit. It's been a super-active day for me, and I want you to know that this isn't going to make me any less curious. It would be awesome if you wanted to sit and watch with me. I love being with you so much.

Can I have something to eat?

Have you ever been so hungry you can barely think straight? That's me right now. My tummy has been growling and it's only going to get louder. I wouldn't say this unless it was really important. I know it's too light out for it to be dinnertime, but I would really appreciate some sort of snack to tide me over.

I love when you cut up fruit for me or make me a PB&J sandwich. I've gotten really good about slowing down when I chew and cleaning my plate. Whatever you make, I'll be sure to eat. I also promise that I'll be hungry for dinner later.

I want to feel little again

I know I'm pretty little compared to you, but I used to be even smaller. Remember when you could cradle me in your arms? You showed me pictures of how tiny I was. You looked so happy. It makes me feel so good to be your little man. We can hug and laugh together. I'm growing up more every day. You must be so proud of me.

But sometimes growing up can be scary. Things were so much more simple when I was a baby. I know that I can't be a baby forever, like how I can't be in preschool forever. I just want to feel your love and nurturing. I hope that I can remember these moments when I grow up.

When I'm at preschool, I'm thinking about all kinds of things. I'm thinking about what game I want to play next. I'm thinking of something funny I just saw. Most of all, though, I'm thinking of when I'll get to see you again.

Going through preschool is more than playing games and hearing stories. It's also a time for a child to really start to explore their personality and independence.
