My daughter, you are my biggest gift and my biggest effort.

When you entered this world, so did a very strong force. I had told myself that all I wanted was a healthy baby, regardless of whether you were a boy or a girl. But I was praying for a girl. I wanted and needed a girl so very badly.

We have been off to the races ever since the day you were born. I could tell early on that you were not going to be the easiest child. You had a large vocabulary from the beginning and a huge personality. You liked a challenge and you were always okay challenging me.

You live life to the fullest even though you are still so young. Sometimes I stop and watch you and consider the future. Your future. A future where you will be out in the world.

I think about you in a position of power. You are standing at the head of a table in a board meeting, surrounded by suited executives. You demand their respect with not only your words but your very presence. They see you for who you are: a strong, sophisticated woman who knows what she wants and needs.

Right now, you spend a lot of time yelling at me or your father. You have a way with words that many people label as “bossy.” However, I prefer to think that you are simply gearing up for the future: a future where you are a leader.

I can already see you annihilating sports records and climbing the tallest mountains. I believe you will excel at any sport that you choose, especially one that requires strength and agility. Why do I think this? Because I am always rescuing you from your latest climb onto the bookshelves or from the roughhousing you enjoy with your siblings.

I feel like no one will ever be able to keep pace with you, but this just means your energy will allow you to shine at anything you choose. You are definitely my greatest challenge at the moment.

I believe you will be fiercely loving and protective of your own babies, caring for each and every one of them as much as you can. You’ll go out of your way to be the best mother possible. They will be your everything, just like you are now MY everything.

You will try your hardest in every aspect of their lives. I can already see the love and commitment in your little eyes. You will make an excellent mother when the time comes.

You love very hard, my adoring little angel. Whoever you end up with will be the luckiest person in the whole world.

I can even imagine you up on a stage somewhere. The lights are shining brightly down on you as you relish your time in the spotlight. You’ll be the very best in the field, whether it is song, dance, or theater. We may not know what your talents are yet, but I do know that they will be extraordinary.

Today, you yelled at us all to stop and watch you as you sang the “ABC” song at the top of your lungs. You want every eye to be on you at all times. You are not one to sit in the shadows and watch the world go by. No, you are a leader and a participant. You make the rules. You are a challenging individual, but you are also the greatest child ever.

I’m so glad that I get to watch your transformation from a baby to an adult who will run the world.

Even though I am dog-tired, I would not change this life for anything.

Love,

Your exhausted, loving mother
