David Bowie’s Daughter Posts Heartwarming Video Of Them Dancing Together To A Nursery Rhyme

David Bowie was born David Robert Jones on Jan. 8, 1947, and died on Jan. 10, 2016. The icon lived for 69 years, but it was enough to leave an indelible mark on the world and in people’s lives. Bowie was born in England and grew to become a celebrated singer-songwriter and actor. He made such an impression in the music industry that he is regarded as one of the 20th century’s most influential musicians. 

One of the aspects of Bowie’s musical artistry that made him become critically acclaimed was his knack for innovation, especially in the 1970s. Throughout Bowie’s career, he reinvented himself and loved visual presentations, so much that his music and stage performances significantly influenced popular music. 

Music wasn’t the only thing Bowie was successful at as he was also a great actor. The legend starred in several movies including “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence,” “Labyrinth,” “The Last Temptation of Christ” and “The Prestige.” He also featured in several television shows. Thanks to his incredible success as a musician and actor, Bowie received multiple awards and honors and will always be remembered as an icon. 

The late entertainer was also a family man and a proud father of two kids. He had a son named Duncan Jones with his first wife, Angie Barnett, and a daughter named Alexandria "Lexi" Zahra Jones with his second wife, Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid.

Bowie and Lexi had a special father-daughter relationship and shared many beautiful memories. Lexi recalled one of those memories when she posted a video on Instagram on June 7, 2023. Bowie died on Jan. 10, 2016, after a battle with liver cancer. He died in his New York City home two days after turning 69 and 18 months after being diagnosed with the disease. Despite his sudden death, Bowie positively impacted positively many people’s lives. Hence, it wasn’t surprising that many people had good things to say about him after his death. Chief among them was comedian Ricky Gervais, who featured Bowie on an episode of his and Stephen Merchant’s TV series, “Extras.” During a chat with The Telegraph, Gervais had nothing but good words about Bowie. He said: 

“Sometimes, because he was my friend, I forgot that he was David Bowie. He was David Jones, a normal bloke. I think people assume he sits around in a silver suit with orange hair. But he’s just a guy who was brilliant at what he did and never stopped creating. He never let me down.”

Bowie also left a lasting impression on his family members. The iconic musician was married twice in his lifetime. His first marriage to Barnett lasted from March 19, 1970, until their divorce on Feb. 8, 1980. The former couple had an open marriage which Barnett later described as a marriage of convenience as she needed to marry him to get a work permit. However, despite their union’s strange nature, Bowie and Barnett bore a son, Duncan, on May 30, 1971. Duncan is now a film producer, director and screenwriter. 

On April 24, 1992, Bowie married Iman, a Somali-American model, two years after meeting her. The couple welcomed their daughter Lexi on Aug. 15, 2000. Bowie and Iman remained married until his death. Despite her husband’s death, Iman continues to remember him and revealed to Today’s Hoda Kotb that she thinks about him every minute of every day.

One of Bowie’s lasting legacies is his children and his daughter, Lexi, continues to remember him every way she can. On June 7, 2023, Lexi shared a sweet video that showed her as a little girl dancing with her dad while the nursery rhyme, “Sing a Song of Sixpence,” played in the background. 

Bowie playfully sang along to the song’s lyrics while holding his then-little daughter, who stood on his feet and enjoyed the moment. Later in the video, Lexi got free from her dad and freestyled on her own while he watched lovingly. Lexi captioned the heartwarming post:

“My forever sunshine.”

Many of Lexi’s followers liked and commented on her emotional post. One of those who commented said: “RIP. Thank you for sharing this with us, we miss him so much ❤️.” Another fan said they loved that Bowie knew the lyrics of the nursery rhyme and described the video as a beautiful memory while a third wrote: 

“I love this so much.”

While Lexi’s recent video post showed her incredible bond with her dad, Bowie already hinted about it. In 2003, he discussed Lexi’s impact on his music: 

“Since the birth of my daughter I tend to write aggressively from a more optimistic standpoint, even if the subject matter is kind of dark. I really don’t want to cast a dark shadow over her future, subtly or psychologically. It really behooves me to kind of be more positive about things than I might have been before she was born.”

Lexi has undoubtedly learned so much from her late dad and is adopting many of those lessons in her life. Today, she is an artist and shares her artwork on a separate Instagram page. Hopefully, the 22-year-old will find more beautiful memories in her lifetime.
