Just as parents would do anything for their children, their kids would also do anything to make their parents feel their love, too. One daughter, for one, simply wanted to help in her own little way. But little did she know that her simple act could create an unimaginable impact that would lead to the success of her family’s business.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, several businesses were affected, which included food businesses, particularly restaurants. Some restaurants were forced to close because people were either not allowed to go outside or were afraid to dine out because of the possibility of catching the virus.
Of course, there were restaurant owners who did not lose hope and went on with their businesses even if it became a challenge for them to lure customers back to their humble establishments. One of them is Vuong Le, the owner of Lee’s Noodle House located on Hopper Avenue in Santa Rosa, California.
Vuong’s daughter, Jennifer Le, said their family-run business would attract a lot of customers prior to the pandemic – but it all changed.
“Before the pandemic it was really, really busy,” Jennifer told The Press Democrat. “Back in 2018, 2019, but right now when COVID hit, it was dead silent.”
Jennifer felt the need to do something to help her father. So, in January 2023, she decided to post a touching video of her father waiting for customers on TikTok.
In the seven-second video, her father could be seen wearing a red winter jacket while leading on the counter of his empty restaurant. But her father didn’t know he was being filmed.
“It makes me so sad to see my parents just wait for customers to walk through the door to eat at their Vietnamese restaurant,” she wrote in the text on the video.

Jennifer, who knows the impact TikTok can make, asked for the support of people on the platform to support her parents’ Vietnamese restaurant. She said it hasn’t been getting customers, which resulted in them feeling stressed because of their financial struggles.
“TikTok do your thing & help support my parents’ Vietnamese restaurant. My parents haven’t been having that many customers & been feeling stressed dealing with financial issues. if you want to check it out, they make delicious Vietnamese food,” she captioned the video.
While it wasn’t surprising that they would attract many customers, they didn’t expect it would be packed three weeks later.
“I just didn’t expect it to blow up. I just thought, oh a couple people will see it,” Jennifer said in an interview with ABC 7.
“His daughter was on TikTok pleading to the public to help her dad because he was running out of business because of the Covid thing. I saw it and it broke my heart,” Kelly Smith, one of the customers who ate at the restaurant, remarked.
One of their family friends said Jennifer’s family deserves only the best, knowing the kind of people her parents are.
“Your mom and dad are among the hardest working, family-oriented people I know. They want nothing less than the best for you girls and Kevin,” one person said. Jennifer responded: “This made me tear up. Thank you so so much.”
Meanwhile, Vuong couldn’t be more grateful for the love and support their business has been receiving since the TikTok video went viral.
“Big difference. A lot of people from the community come out and support us and I’m really thankful,” Vuong told ABC 7.
