Dementia is a heartbreaking syndrome that is incredibly difficult for both the sufferers and their loved ones.
Affecting over 50 million people globally in 2015, this cruel condition causes a myriad of debilitating symptoms related to memory loss and brain function. Although watching a loved one fall victim to this syndrome is painful, there are also moments of joy interspersed within the sadness.
One such moment of beauty recently went viral, touching the lives of many people throughout the world. MJ Grant clearly adores her two deaf parents, Manley and Carmen Grant. MJ is fluent in sign language because it is the only way she has been able to communicate with her parents. MJ loves to spend her time with her mother Carmen, despite Carmen's ongoing struggles with dementia.

MJ recently took advantage of time with her mother to take her to the beach. As the car was stopped, MJ happened to take video of an especially touching exchange with Carmen.
Carmen asks MJ who her mother is, clearly confused about the situation. MJ shows incredible patience and understanding as she walks Carmen through the story of how she is actually her daughter. The pride and joy in Carmen's face is adorable as the memory comes back to her that she is indeed MJ's mother.
MJ is so gentle as she guides her mother through this remembering process. The moment is truly beautiful to watch. Both MJ and Carmen tear up as Carmen's memory briefly comes back to her.
"Dementia can be beautiful"
...is how MJ captioned her video on social media; after watching it ourselves, we definitely agree.
It is no wonder that so many people are reaching for their hankies after watching this precious video. After you have watched it, be sure to spread the joy to everyone else that you know. Do you have a loved one who has dementia? How does your family deal with it? Let us know in the comments.
