Katie Eitner is a young girl who made the decision to sell her lamb in a 4-H auction held in Waynesburg, PA. While this may sound like a normal occasion for a 4-H club, her reason for selling the animal went much deeper.

That's because Katie's stepdad is dealing with a brain tumor. Harley Joe Gaspen has been racking up large medical bills while going in and out of the hospital for his condition. The massive bills have been putting a major burden on the family.

Not only are they dealing with the fact that their loved one has a tumor, but they also have to worry about how they are going to pay off thousands of dollars in medical expenses according to CBS. Unfortunately, this is a problem that many Americans have to deal with. The US medical system is one that needs a major overhaul for sure.

Katie was eager to help out her family in any way that she could. She decided that selling her 145-pound lamb could be a start. She did not expect to make a lot of money off of the animal, but she was hoping that any amount could help out her desperate family.

Katie took her lamb to the county fair, and the local auctioneer began the bidding. Animals typically are sold by the pound, and her lamb began at $20 a pound. But what Katie and her family didn't know was that the whole community was ready to bid high on the animal.

Organizers of the 4-H auction knew what Katie had in mind before the big day. They decided to do what they could to help the family out. The spread the word to family, friends, neighbors, and local businesses. Soon, fellow 4-H members had their own plan for the auction.

As the minutes went by, the price per pound for the lamb kept rising. Up and up it went as the crowd cheered while onlookers wiped tears from their eyes.

When the winning bid was finally announced, Katie and her family received $233 a pound. That is ten times more than what the auction started at. They ended up selling their animal for an astounding $33,785.
