Daughter Abandons 80-Year-Old Father With Alzheimer’s After Putting Him On One-Way Flight Because She Was ‘Done With Him’

Alzheimer’s disease affects millions of people as well as their loved ones who are responsible for their care. Many people hope and expect that their children will care from them when they reach an advanced age and require special assistance.

This may be particularly true if they develop Alzheimer’s disease, which is a progressive condition that ultimately wipes away a person’s memory. While this may have been Jerry Ellingsen’s wish when he was younger, it, unfortunately, was not the experience that he is living with today.

Jerry is 80-years-old and had been cared for by his nephew and brother until recently. When his condition worsened and they were no longer able to care for him, they sent him to his daughter’s house, reports 9News.

Unfortunately, his daughter was not in the right frame of mind to care for him. She decided to send him on a flight to Denver to receive care from his estranged wife. Before Jerry’s flight arrived, the daughter sent a text to Jerry’s wife stating that she needed to get rid of him and was “done with him.”

When Jerry arrived at the Denver International Airport with his dog, nobody was there to pick him up. More than that, Jerry’s condition made him confused about his whereabouts. He had no idea what he needed to do or who to contact, so he wandered around until someone finally noticed him and reported him to the police. The police officers said that Jerry could not provide them with his family members’ names, where he lived or any other identifying details.

After significant research, police learned Jerry’s identity. They contacted his daughter and his estranged wife, but nobody would let him into their home and provide him with the care he needed. Because of this, Jerry’s only option was to take up residence in a local hospital. This is because hospitals are required to provide care to individuals in situations like this.

You may think that Jerry’s sad story is unique, but it is repeated hundreds of times each year. What do you think about this heartbreaking trend? We are eager to read about your thoughts and experiences, so please spend a few minutes commenting in the space below.
