Date Buys Food For Himself As Woman Turns Up Without Cash, She Is Flabbergasted

Going on a first date with someone new can be extremely exciting but also incredibly nerve-wracking. There is a lot of pressure to make a good impression, so most people usually try to put their best foot forward by dressing up for the occasion and making sure to engage in positive, lighthearted conversations with their date.
There are a few unspoken expectations people have when it comes to going on a first date, especially when it comes to who pays. While some people believe that the check should be split, others believe that just one person should be responsible for the bill. In some cases, it could be whoever was the one to instigate the date. Others believe that the man should always foot the bill.
When a girl named Heydi from Fresno, California, went on a date in early November 2021, she was shocked by how her date acted toward her. She didn't bring any money to the date, so her date only bought food for himself. She couldn't believe that he didn't even offer to buy her anything to eat or drink. Heydi posted a video of the situation on TikTok that same month and asked her followers what they thought she should do moving forward.
The TikTok has since sparked a debate online about first date expectations, specifically about who should pay. Some dates can be more relaxed and may not involve spending a lot of money, while others can easily add up to cost a huge chunk of change for just one dinner. Read on to hear both sides of this heated conversation.

A Rough First Date
In early November 2021, Heydi shared a video on TikTok about a first date experience she recently had. It seemed like it didn't go exactly the way that she had wanted it to and that her expectations were definitely different than what really happened. In her video, Heydi wrote:
"On our first date I didn't have money so he only bought himself food. Should I go out with him again? He said pay me or pay me no attention."
The video showed that there was food on the opposite side of the table, but there was none on Heydi's side. Adding more clarification to the date itself, the TikTok user captioned her post: "Dating in Fresno be like." It's clear that the woman was more than likely expecting her date to pay for both of their meals, and she was left in disbelief at the fact that he didn't even offer to buy her anything to eat or drink.
The TikTok has since been viewed more than 5.3 million times, as people have either marveled at or been left in complete shock at how this man treated Heydi on their first date. There has also been an abundance of comments left on the video.
According to Indy100, Heydi's TikTok has since sparked a huge debate online, leaving people all over the world divided with their own thoughts and opinions. Some users brought up what they think about Heydi going on another date with the man, while others focused on the fact that she didn't bring any money on the date.

Sparking A Debate
It seemed like TikTok users were torn on whose side to take in this case, and debated in the comments section. One user asked, "Who goes on a date without money though?" Another user clearly took the date's side in this situation and said, "He shouldn't go on another one with you again." A third user seemed to agree, saying, "Don't go on a date expecting another man to buy you food that's so disrespectful."
However, several users took Heydi's side and stood up for her. They also shared their own expectations about who should take care of the bill on the first date. One user commented, "Real men pay for dinner when going out." Another added, "Such a sad excuse for a man!"
More people began to question her date's character, and explained how his behavior seemed problematic. One user said, "He is not a gentleman for sure," and called the entire situation a "huge red flag." However, one person shared a response that called out the problems on both ends, and said, "Guys should pay but girls shouldn't expect it. Be ready on both sides."
Despite the debate on TikTok, Heydi and the man from her viral video ended up going out on a second date together just a few days later. Sadly, it seemed like the two once again didn't share a connection. In the video, the pair was outside and Heydi was wearing a short-sleeved shirt while her date had a winter coat on. After it seemed like her date wouldn't lend her his coat, Heydi explained that she was done with guys from Fresno.
