Danny DeVito Is 'Encouraging' Of His 3 Kids Following In His Footsteps

Danny DeVito is one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood. He is incredibly talented and has shown his skills as not only an actor but also as a director, producer and screenwriter. DeVito has been active in the industry since the late 1960s and to this day is still very busy in Hollywood and in his personal life.

DeVito was born on November 17, 1944, in New Jersey. He graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1966 and began appearing in theater productions, some even alongside his future wife, Rhea Perlman.

The actor quickly found fame after he was cast in the TV series “Taxi,” and from then on went on to land great roles. Some of DeVito’s most iconic films and television shows include “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Matilda,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” On top of that, DeVito has also produced some top-tier films with his production company, such as “Pulp Fiction” and “Freedom Writers.”

While he has led a very successful professional life, DeVito also has a lot to be proud of in his personal life. He met Perlman back in 1971, and the pair dated for almost ten years before tying the knot in 1982. They even acted alongside each other from time to time. DeVito and Perlman later separated for a brief period before reconciling. However, the couple announced their separation in 2017 but have no intention of filing for divorce. Thankfully, the pair are still great friends and great parents to their three amazing children.

DeVito and Perlman acted together as parents in the film "Matilda," although they weren't necessarily the greatest examples. Fortunately, the pair have shown just how great they are at parenting in the real world and have raised three amazing children. 

Growing up with two famous actors as parents, it's not surprising that DeVito and Perlman's children have all entered the entertainment industry. Together, DeVito and Perlman have three children. Their eldest daughter, Lucy Chet DeVito, was born on March 11, 1983. Their youngest daughter, Gracie Fan DeVito, was born two years later in March 1985. They also have one son together named Jake Daniel DeVito, who was born in October 1987.

According to IMDB, Jake has definitely followed in his famous father's footsteps and is showing off his skills as an actor and producer. Some of the projects he's appeared in include "Pieces of a Dream" and "Amboy." In the more recent years, Jake has shifted his focus to producing and recently completed the production of "St. Sebastian." According to IMDB, he also has a new project in the works called "Little Demon."

Gracie is also a member of the DeVito family who has worked in film production. According to The Things, she previously obtained her MFA and is currently working as a movie producer. However, Gracie prefers to keep much of her life private, which could be what led her to a more behind-the-scenes type of job.

According to The Things, Gracie worked on her first movie, "My Girlfriend's Abroad," when she was just 21 years old. She also worked on "Bloom," which was released the following year and starred Gracie's mom Perlman.

All of DeVito and Perlman's children have gone on to find success in the entertainment industry. However, the career of their eldest child Lucy seems to have taken off the most so far. Lucy is an actress and has even appeared opposite her famous father on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."

According to Entertainment Tonight, she made her off-Broadway debut in 2009 alongside Perlman in "Love, Loss and What I Wore." Lucy has dedicated plenty of time to acting and to making people laugh. "It's not easy, but I love it," she said.

Even though she comes from a well-loved and established family, Lucy typically keeps her surname a secret on the first date. "I think a first date is kind of like an interview," she explained. "If I feel like we have chemistry, I will divulge more of myself to them. I am pretty guarding in that sense. It's a curse and a blessing having that last name."

Lucy also said that she's learned a lot about acting from her parents. She explained, "They basically said, 'Do your work.' They (tell me to) study; see as much as you can see, educate yourself. Work your creative muscle. In that sense, they've been very encouraging.

Lucy has also had the chance to work with DeVito and Perlman. "They are both amazing actors," she said. "We have this connection and it's so great." Lucy also said that all of the projects she's done with her parents have been "fun and sweet."

It's clear that the DeVito and Perlman household is full of talented people who will continue to make their marks in the entertainment world.
