Daniel Craig Revealed His Children Won’t Be Inheriting His $170 Million Fortune

Aug 18, 2021 by apost team

In an interview from August 2021, Daniel Craig, best known for his role as "James Bond," said that he would not be leaving behind his hefty $170 million fortune to his children. The actor believes that it is "distasteful" for his children to inherit his money once he passes, and said that he would be giving all of it away before his time comes. Craig has been married to actress Rachel Weisz since 2011 with whom he shares a daughter. Craig also has a daughter from his previous relationship with Fiona Loudon.

Though Craig has starred in other movies throughout his career, his most well-known role is, of course, playing special agent James Bond. Since the movies had begun filming in the 60s, the actors playing the role of "007" have gone on to achieve great fame and acclaim. Before Craig, Pierce Brosnan held the role of "James Bond." It is a prestigious role indeed, and Craig has done the role great justice as well.

Craig has always lived a relatively private life, and unlike other A-list celebrities, does not like being in the spotlight after he is done filming. However, he has taken opportunities previously to speak out about his love for his family as well as his wife. Both he and Weisz kept their romance and marriage under wraps for quite a long time.  It may come as a surprise then that he has chosen to not leave behind his fortune for his children, but in many ways, this may be his own way of showing love. Read on to know more about what Craig said.

NME reported that in an interview with Candis Magazine, Craig asked the interviewer, "Isn’t there an old adage that if you die a rich person, you’ve failed?" He continued, "I think Andrew Carnegie gave away what in today’s money would be about 11 billion dollars, which shows how rich he was because I’ll bet he kept some of it, too."

He then made the revelation, "I don’t want to leave great sums to the next generation. I think inheritance is quite distasteful. My philosophy is get rid of it or give it away before you go."

Craig's most recent Bond movie, "No Time To Die," is set to be released on September 30, 2021, after being postponed multiple times due to the coronavirus pandemic. This will be his fifth and final Bond movie according to GQ. While filming the movie, there was a lot of chaos according to Craig, such as the first director, Danny Boyle, quitting, Craig getting injured, and an explosion on the set among other challenges.

With so many setbacks, Craig had actually wondered if the movie would even be completed, especially as the pandemic set the schedule back about seven months. Moreover, Sam Mendes, who directed two of Craig’s 007 movies, told GQ, "There has always been an element that Bond has been on the wing and a prayer. It is not a particularly healthy way to work."

However, as Craig completed his filming and took his final bow of being James Bond, he certainly felt emotional about leaving this chapter of his life behind. When he had to make a speech after his final scene, Craig recalled, I" had a whole thing kind of put together in my head that I wanted to say. I couldn’t get it out."

Not much is known about Craig and his private life, and according to Hello Magazine, Daniel previously stated that privacy was "hugely important" to him and his wife. The couple has rarely, if ever, spoken about their daughter, and Craig has also not publicly spoken about his 29-year-old daughter Ella, whom he shares with his ex-partner Fiona Loudon. However, both Craig and Weisz have spoken about each other during interviews in the past.

According to PEOPLE, Weisz said, "I never thought I would get married," adding "It was not an ambition of mine. It was the opposite. I couldn’t relate to romantic comedies — marriage seems to be the whole point of them. Then it just happened, happily, at a more mature moment."

Marie Claire reported that though the couple is not very public with their romance, there is an abundance of love between them. "I’m very happy being married, very, very happy," Weisz said, adding, "I love being Mrs. Craig," She revealed that "I’m Mrs. Craig on my checkbooks and passports and things."

For his part, Craig spoke to Telegraph UK about how his filming schedule tends to affect his relationship with his family. "I’m away from home for eight months. There’s no other way of doing it. My family hate me," he admitted. "They’re just starting to forgive me now." However, one thing that Craig never does is bring his work or his character home.

About his work-life balance, Craig said, "Oh it's very easy just go home, it's just normal. There's not much room for James Bond at home."
