Dance Group Jabbawockeez Pulls Off Las Vegas Flash Mob To ‘Uptown Funk’

Las Vegas is famous for dancers, but people usually think of long-legged showgirls in sequins and feathers performing on elaborate stages. But one famous dance troupe, the Jabbawockeez, flipped this notion on its head. Instead of sequins and feathers, they sported baggy black, white, and gray clothes, white masks, and hoods or hats. Instead of a glittering stage, they flash mobbed the floor of the MGM Grand lobby in 2015 in order to celebrate the dance group's move to the hotel.

Onlookers were just as enthusiastic and entered the MGM Grand Lobby as if they were sitting in paid seats in an auditorium. The surprise began when a small group of the dancers chose to flop down on the floor and pretend to sleep. Onlookers exchange glances and then gather around, suspecting more was to come.

Unmasked dancers strolled by, tiptoeing among their "sleeping" counterparts. One dancer pretends to stroke the face of a snoozer. Notes of a soothing lullaby fill the air, cut off by the louder sound of snoring. At that, the sleeping dancers suddenly wake. Snoring disappears and Uptown Funk blasts from the speakers.

Anyone familiar with the Jabbawockeez knows they always bring their own riotous interpretation of songs to their choreography, and this rendition is no exception, reports Las Vegas Jaunt. They jive, groove, slide, and jump in a spirited and sidesplitting depiction of their idea of what uptown funk is. When Bruno Mars’ voice sings, “Stop, wait a minute!” and the music pauses for a second, all the dancers obey.

Except one, who seems to have missed the point. He launches into ridiculously extreme dance moves until the others start dancing again. When the lyrics say, “Get the stretcher,” his troupe mates single him out, suggesting he needs it the most.

By now a sizeable crowd has gathered to watch this amazing group mix dance, gymnastics, and comedy. Towards the end, one of the members performs an "illegal" move, imitating a performance from a different dance video.

He is punished with a deluge of pillow strikes, which he gleefully escapes unharmed. With a dazzling climax of crazy and funny moves, the Jabbawockeez end their performance to the cheers and applause of the surprised and delighted crowds. Which just goes to show that it doesn’t always take feathers and sequins to completely captivate a crowd in Vegas.
