Dallas Mavericks Retire No.24 In Tribute To Kobe Bryant

Basketball Star and Legend Kobe Bryant, 41, along with his daughter Gianna, 13 died in a devastating helicopter over the weekend. 7 other victims were also on board the chopper and also lost their lives. A flood of tributes has poured in for the Kobe and the other victims of the crash. More recently the Dallas Mavericks have retired their #24 which was Bryants number when he played basketball.

The Dallas Mavericks public relations tweeted their devastation over the loss of Kobe Bryant. In a statement, owner of the Mavs, "We are shocked and saddened by the devastating news of the passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna. Kobe was an ambassador for our game, a decorated legend, and a global icon."

The owner went on to say, "Above all, he was a dedicated father. Kobe's legacy transcends basketball, and our organization has decided that the number 24 will never again be worn by a Dallas Maverick."

Fans all over the world are paying tribute to their beloved basketball hero and his daughter. Thoughts and prayers go out to the rest of the Bryant family, Kobe’s wife Vanessa and Gianna’s sisters Natalia, Bianka and Capri.

"Our hearts go out to all the lives lost and families impacted by this terrible tragedy. We send our thoughts and prayers to Vanessa and the family, the Lakers organization, and Kobe fans everywhere," the Mavs said. 

Other prominent figures have also come forward to pay their respects to Bryant, including former President of the United States Barack Obama."Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act," Obama said. "To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day."
