'Dallas' Actor Ken Kercheval Passes Away At Age 83

Kercheval was an accomplished actor who is best known for his role as oil tycoon Cliff Barnes on the hit CBS nighttime soap opera, "Dallas." The beloved actor passed away on April 21. The news was confirmed by his talent agent, Jeff Fisher.

The actor starred in many television programs, including "The Secret Storm,” "Search for Tomorrow,” and “How to Survive a Marriage." However, his road to stardom occurred when he played J.R. Ewing's nemesis on "Dallas."

Larry Hagman was the actor who portrayed Ewing. These two men were the only two members of the cast who were a part of the show during its full run during the years 1978 to 1991. The long-standing Kercheval appeared in 342 out of the series’ total 357 episodes.

Kercheval was an admitted heavy smoker, smoking up to two or three packs per day. The smoking habit led to the diagnosis of lung cancer. Kercheval underwent surgery in 1994 to remove part of his lung.

He is survived by five children, which were the product of three of his four marriages. All of the marriages ended in divorce and Kercheval was not married at the time of his death.
