In a Twitter response, Earnhardt had this to say, “We are truly blessed that all on board escaped with no serious injuries, including our daughter, our two pilots and our dog Gus.” He also thanked the rescue team and pilots for their immediate response. He showed gratitude for local law enforcement, emergency personnel, and hospital staff.

To his Twitter following, he also had this to say: “Amy and I want to thank everyone who has lifted us up with phone calls, messages and prayer.” He additionally mentioned that the investigation into the crash is still on-going and therefore neither he nor his family will speculate on the events of the day.

On the day of the wreck, a thick black cloud of smoke rose from the crash site. As emergency crews responded, grey smoke turned to white. Out of everyone involved, Earnhardt sustained the most serious injury. Only he required hospitalization.

Bruising and swelling to his lower back nearly kept him off the track, but he says he still plans on racing at Darlington Speedway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200, according to FOX News. Fans will be thrilled. Earnhardt’s Chevy Camaro will be done in blue and yellow to honor his legendary father’s first NASCAR Cup race in 1975.
