Dad Surprises Son With Sprawling 40-Acre Plot Of Land On His 13th Birthday

Birthdays can be a magical time filled with love, laughter and, of course, gifts. However, one 13-year-old’s milestone was made even more remarkable when his father gave him a 40-acre plot of land as a present!

Faheem Muhammad, 35, who hails from Los Angeles, California, is the co-founder and chief information officer of real estate development company OASIS Investment Group. The group’s mission is to not only transform but also uplift low-income and underserved communities, Faheem told Good Morning America in April 2023. He added, “Our concept was to come in and make them nice places to live but make them nice places to live for the people that already lived there.”

He also told CBS8 the group buys and rebuilds properties in the south side of Chicago to “create a better living situation for the Black community there.” The group also offers courses to potential buyers on home ownership. Faheem credited his mother with teaching him and his siblings the importance of owning your own property. 

So it comes as no surprise that when Faheem was first introduced to an untouched, sprawling green 198-acre plot of land in San Diego County, he knew he had to have it, and bought it all in 2021. “We see clear space that we can, uninterruptedly, enjoy nature… especially growing up in the city, a congested city like LA. When we’re out here, it’s totally different,” Faheem explained.

When his son, Faheem Ra’id Muhammad, was about to celebrate his milestone 13th birthday, his father knew exactly what to do to instill the same lesson on the importance of landownership that was passed down to him from his mother.

When a post about Faheem’s son, affectionately known as Little Faheem, being gifted the 40 acres for his 13th birthday on March 16, 2023, from his father surfaced online, it soon attracted widespread attention, including from rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs. Faheem said he simply wanted to teach his son lessons on self-sustainability.

“I thought it would be a great opportunity to teach him a life lesson about the land,” Faheem said. Besides enjoying trips to the land with family and friends, Faheem has also arranged for inner-city kids to enjoy the space as well, where they take hikes, ride ATVs and build campfires. 

Little Faheem couldn’t hold back his own excitement about the space when asked what he loved about the land. 

“There’s no city lights out here, no pollution and stuff like that, so you get to see clear sky. You can see all the stars (at night),” the teenager exclaimed.

Meanwhile, his father had some ambitious ideas for the land, which sits right next to a border wall separating the United States and Mexico.

“You could build, like, ATVs around the whole thing. Build a zipline from the mountain,” he envisioned. Little Faheem also had some ideas of his own, including “ATV camps, resorts, family homes. Stuff like that – Airbnbs,” he remarked. “You could put a windmill there if you want to.”

For Faheem, it would seem like a waste not to take full advantage of the splendors of the natural environment, particularly for his nearest and dearest to enjoy if they ever needed a break from the big city. Faheem explained:

“We just see an opportunity to enjoy nature in its finest sense. You got fresh water, clear skies at night. You can see all the stars, the moon. The sunrises are beautiful.”
