Dad Says He's Ready to Be Taken Off Life Support After Daughter Marries Fiancé At Hospital

There's no bond in the world that's stronger than the bond between a father and daughter. No matter who she meets and eventually marries, every woman's daddy will always be the man who holds the most important place in her heart.

Shelby Schweikhart-Conville has always had a special bond with her father, Steven. Ever since she was a little girl, Shelby knew that she wanted her father there with her on the day of her wedding. Like most little girls, she knew that she wouldn't be able to say "I do" without her daddy standing by her side.

Tragically, it seemed like the universe had other plans. Around the time that Shelby became engaged to her boyfriend, Steven was diagnosed with lung cancer. While his prognosis was initially positive, over time he began to fail to respond to treatment. As the cancer metastasized, his medical team had to choice but to inform him that his cancer story would not have a happy ending.

While Shelby had initially been planning a big extravagant wedding, the bride-to-be knew that there were things that were more important in her life than a fancy wedding reception. The selfless Shelby decided that the most important thing was that her father would be present for her big day.

Shelby and her fiancé decided to say their vows in Steven's hospital room in the ICU of St. Vincent's Hospital. Although they planned the wedding in under 30 minutes, there's perhaps never been a wedding ceremony more beautiful or touching. Shelby looked gorgeous in her white wedding gown. In a video circulating on social media, Shelby can be seen kissing her father's cheek and telling him she loves him.

After the wedding was finished, Steven somberly informed his medical staff that he was ready to be taken off of life support. He'd lived to see the most important moment of his life and was ready to stop struggling and find peace.

Miraculously, Steven is still with us at press time but is now in hospice care. While Shelby accepts that their time together might be limited, she's allowing herself to hold out hope for a miracle. After all, anything is clearly possible when you have love on your side.
