Dad's Plea For Friendless Son With Autism Reaches Large Audience

Nov 18, 2021 by apost team

Everybody wants to fit in. For children, this typically means having a lot of friends, or at least some friends, and having a sense of belonging. Feeling like you matter to others and that you’re part of a close-knit group can boost kids’ confidence and help them really come into their own.

Most parents want what’s best for their children and will go to all ends to make sure their kids are healthy and happy. They want to protect them from the harshness the world offers and instead help them see the good in others. For one father, he sent out a message to the world in hopes that he could help his son make at least one new friend.

The father’s name is Kevin Harrison, and it seems like he would do anything and everything to help his son named Daniel. His son has autism, and he doesn’t have any friends. When Daniel brought home a worksheet from school, it was clear just how much the young boy yearned to have a companion by his side.

Wanting to help give his son the best life possible and help make him happy, Harrison sent out a tweet on Sept. 28, 2021, asking people for their help. It was Daniel’s birthday, so Harrison asked if everyone who saw the tweet could wish him a happy birthday and show Daniel that he was cared for.

The plea instantly went viral, with people all over the world sending sweet messages and videos to Harrison and Daniel, showing the young boy that not only did he have one friend — he had a lot of friends.

On Sept. 28, 2021, Harrison tweeted:

“Daniel’s my son. Profoundly Autistic. Hasn’t one friend. It’s his birthday today. In his ECHP he wrote that his two wishes were to learn how to drive and make friends. Please wish him a happy birthday. Please show him you care. Please share.”

Since then, the tweet has gone on to receive more than 123,000 likes and close to a combined total of 30,000 retweets and quote tweets. According to Harrison’s Twitter bio, the tweet has gone completely viral and has been viewed 14.6 million times. Not only have several people from all over the world seen the tweet and interacted with it in some way, but many celebrities have also seen the plea and left kind-hearted messages for Daniel in return.

“Star Wars” icon Mark Hamill responded to the father’s plea and left Daniel an amazing birthday message that said: “For my friend Daniel.” He added an emoji of a birthday cake, along with a gif from “Star Wars” that stated, “The force is strong with this one.”

Several other notable figures responded to leave their own messages for Daniel, including journalist Jake Tapper and actor Eric Stonestreet. Kevin was completely blown away by the amount of love his son received from strangers all over the world. He even replied to Hamill and said, “This means a lot. For me as an 8-year-old. And for my son who idolizes you. And for every person with Autism.”

It’s clear that Daniel not only has one friend now, but he has plenty from all around the world.
