Dad Kicks Bratty ‘Cool Girl’ Out Of Teen Daughter’s Birthday Sleepover At 1 AM For Bullying

Being a parent comes with a lot of responsibilities and hardships, but also a lot of moments of fun and laughter. While it’s important to make sure kids have their fair share of good times, it’s also important to make sure that they are safe, happy and healthy. Balancing letting children and teenagers make their own choices versus finding the right moment to step in can be tricky, but it’s a skill that plenty of parents have been able to master.

One Reddit user from 2020 expressed his concerns as a father, as he had to kick out one of the guests at his teenage daughter’s sleepover. The daughter had invited five girls from her school to spend her birthday with her and sleepover at the family’s house. It seemed like everything was going pretty well, aside from one girl being a bit rude to the parents and even the daughter at times. Aside from that, the 14-year-old girl seemed to enjoy her birthday and her sleepover with the girls from school.

Problems arose when one of the girls couldn’t stop demeaning the birthday girl, especially for some of the gifts she received. Wanting to protect his daughter from having her feelings hurt even more, he went as far as kicking the other teenage girl out of the slumber party. Since it’s a parent’s job to keep their children safe and stand by them during tough times, the father felt he was doing what was right by making the other girl leave, but his wife and the other girl’s mother disagreed, leaving the father to wonder if he made the right decision. Most people agreed with the father's actions, however. 

In his Reddit post, the father, 34, described his 14-year-old daughter’s birthday party in February 2020. She invited five girls from school to her house to celebrate her birthday and have a sleepover. The father described one of the girls as a “spoiled brat” for her already apparent rude behavior, but his daughter disagreed and said she was a “super duper cool girl.”

Near the end of the night, the daughter opened her birthday gifts. Although the other girl was unimpressed with the gifts, the father gave his daughter her expensive birthday present — an iPhone 7 that he and his wife bought together. The cool girl remained unimpressed, as she had the newest edition of the phone. Regardless, the father helped his daughter set up her phone, and the girls all hurried off to the birthday girl’s bedroom to hang out.

Later, the daughter went downstairs and complained about not getting the newest phone. Since this was so out of the ordinary, the father waited for her to go back upstairs without her phone and went through her text messages that she had exchanged with the cool girl. In the texts, the girl said she wanted to leave since the party was so lame.

The father granted her wish, and around 1 a.m. he told the girl to pack her stuff and call her mother to come pick her up. Slightly teary-eyed, the girl waited for her mom to arrive. Her mother excused her daughter’s behavior as a “teenager phase” and the man’s own wife thought he overreacted, so he’s been left to wonder if he made the right choice about kicking the girl out of his daughter’s slumber party so she wouldn’t be able to ruin the rest of the night.
