A birthday party for a child is usually a wonderful adventure. There are balloons, cake, presents, and fun. A birthday should bring happiness and joy to a family rather than heartache.

Unfortunately, 8-year-old Jaina McGloghlon passed away on her birthday. The reason? Balloons.

Jaina was very tired after having a lot of fun at her birthday party. Her father took her to bed and tucked her in so she could rest. The whole family was tired and eager to get in some rest for themselves at that point. He decided to check on Jaina a few hours later. When he walked into her room, he figured she was still sound asleep.

Her foot was sticking out of the covers, so her dad pulled the blanket down to cover it, but he was horrified at what he saw next.

When he pulled the cover off of her face he realized she had a balloon on her head. He was horrified but was able to act quickly, pulling her down on the floor and cutting the balloon away from her. He started CPR after alerting everyone else in the house. The family immediately called 911 and prayed for a miracle.

They were shocked at what had happened after the party - Jaina had gotten one of the huge Mylar balloons stuck on her head. They knew the situation was grave when they saw that the child was unconscious. However, they didn’t give up hope. The father kept up his CPR efforts until the paramedics arrived.

The paramedics arrived quickly and did what they could to save the little girl. They attempted to resuscitate her for over an hour. Unfortunately, they were not successful.

Little Jaina passed away from accidental suffocation.

They believed the little girl must have been trying to suck the helium from the balloon when she put it over her head. She was then unable to breathe, causing her to suffocate. Her death was so unfortunate and untimely. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has revealed that balloons are one of the top causes of suffocation in children.

Children often suck the helium out of the balloons for fun. When left unattended, they put the balloons over their heads, causing suffocation. Jaina’s family want others to know how quickly tragedy can occur. They want everyone to never take their children for granted. They hope that their story can help others realize the dangers in such seemingly innocent party decorations.

No one should ever have to go through what these parents did. With close supervision, these accidents can be prevented. We hope their family finds peace in the future. Our thoughts and prayers are with the McGloghlon family. Please leave a comment and pass this information along to others to warn them of the dangers of balloons.
