Dad Fighting Breast Cancer Was Told He Had 6 Months Left, Credits God For Strength

October is breast cancer awareness month and one man is the perfect example of giving the disease all of the fight that you have within you.

Daniel DiNardo, 49, has been battling breast cancer since 2015. While most people are aware of the effects of breast cancer in women, many do not realize that the disease can also strike men.

The engineer from Youngstown, Ohio noticed a lump in the right side of his chest and immediately went in for a biopsy, according to WJW-TV. By then, the cancer had already progressed to stage 3 and DiNardo was given the grim prognosis that he only had six months left to live.

Despite aggressively fighting the disease with chemotherapy, radiation, and a mastectomy, the cancer came back a few months later. The cancer had spread to the femoral ball in his left hip as well as to the spine and lymph nodes in the chest. Four years after the initial diagnosis, DiNardo is still battling the disease.

'If it wasn’t for them and if it wasn’t for God, I’d be nothing. I get my strength from my family and I get my strength from my faith,' he told WJW-TV.

Because breast cancer in men only accounts for less than one percent of all types of the disease, it does not get the attention that it deserves. The diagnosis took DiNardo by surprise because he had no history of cancer in his family and he did not exhibit any of the usual risk factors.

DiNardo wants to use his case to raise awareness about the possibility of breast cancer in men. He continues his fight and goes in for check-ups every four months to monitor the progress of the disease. In the meantime, DiNardo is committed to leading his life as if every day was his last.

After you have watched the video, make sure to spread the message to everyone that you know. We need to raise awareness about breast cancer in men.
