Humans have a natural curiosity for the unknown. If there is something we haven't ever seen before, we want to see it. On an episode of the YouTube series What's Inside from 2015, Dan shows the inside of a wasp nest to his son and his son's friend who both look a little nervous. But what they find inside is an intricate maze created by nature.

Dad Dan and son Lincoln have a YouTube channel dedicated to opening up all kinds of mysterious things together, to learn about what hides inside them.

In this video they decide to look inside a wasp nest. Of course, it would be far too dangerous to open up a live wasp nest and no one would want to destroy the wasp's home, so they ordered an uninhabited nest from eBay, reports JumbleJoy.

The two young boys place the nest in between two soccer balls for scale. The nest is much bigger. Dan, wearing gloves and using a knife, does the tricky work of cutting it open while son Lincoln, and his friend Kai, watch on.

Dan cuts it neatly in half – it sounded like he was cutting through cardboard. It neatly falls open showing a very intricate and beautiful internal structure. Both boys gasp in astonishment, and even dad is taken aback. Nature really can build stunning homes.

When they inspected it more closely, they saw the nest still had some wasp eggs inside, and the remnants of a wasp itself! At least it wasn't alive or they'd be in trouble. The boys reflected on the fact that this nest could hold thousands of wasps, and they were holding it right there in their hands.

Once their adventure of discovery was over, Dan said he didn't think it was something he'd want to keep, so we reckon it will be placed somewhere in his garden for nature to reclaim it.

If you've ever wondered about what is inside a wasp nest – now you finally have the answer! Have you ever seen the inside of a wasp's nest? And if so, what did you think? Let us know and pass this interesting story on to anyone who may be curious to see nature's hidden secrets.
