Mat Shaw and his daughter Savanna wanted to spread a message of hope after the 15-year-old's choir canceled rehearsals due to the coronavirus. According to The Daily Signal, they began singing when the rapid spread of COVID-19 meant that more and more people have been self-isolating at home.

Many people don't realize "The Prayer" was originally created in the 90s for the film “Quest for Camelot,” and was to be sung by Canadian singer Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, in Italian. It famously won the 1999 Golden Globe for Best Original Song before Josh Groban later recorded his own version which was equally as famous.
