Cyclist Finds Injured Stray Crawling From Woods 7 Miles From Town And Refuses To Leave Him Behind

Humans have a clear bond with animals, especially dogs. People have spent thousands of years domesticating dogs and honing them to be loyal, friendly companions. Puppies remind us of children, and grown dogs continue to have many child-like characteristics that make people smile. The mutual affection between dogs and humans is clear.

One day, Jarrett Little was out for a long ride with his cycling friends. They were seven miles out of town. They took a break, and a puppy slowly crawled out of a wooded area.

The puppy was sweet and a little shy. Little and his friends could see that the puppy was injured. It had road rash and one of its legs was bleeding and broken.

Little and his friends knew that they had to help the dog. They gave the pup their food and water. Little knew that if he left the dog, it could die. He decided to take action.

"We stopped to regroup and he came out of the woods to greet us. He was really thin, ribs showing and had a lot of road rash and a broken leg," Little told CBS News.

Little hoisted the dog onto his back and pedaled the bike the seven miles back into town. Keeping the dog balanced was not easy, but the dog was very cooperative. The pup seemed to know that the man was trying to help him. The man was hoping to find a veterinarian who could attend to the dog's immediate medical needs.

On the way back into town, Little came across a tourist from Maine who was able to help. The dog is well on its way to recovery.

This friendly pup has received a second chance at life thanks to a kind person who was paying attention and who was willing to literally go the extra (seven) miles on his bike in order to get help.

The community took heart in this story. Not every piece of news that a person hears about is good news.

Everyone was joyous to read of the dog's happy ending and the man's selflessness when faced with a creature who clearly needed help.
