Flash Mobs Are A Creative And Entertaining Way To Promote Humanitarianism

Approximately 1,400 college students from Sint-Joris College put together a flash mob with the intent of creating the largest performance by a flash mob ever seen in the Netherlands, reports Stay Inspired. The performance was set to the tune of Shakira's song, “Waka Waka (Time for Africa)”.

The flash mob was organized to bring awareness to Kenya and raise funds for a number of issues in the African country. It started with those two young girls and spread throughout the town square until a huge group was singing and dancing in almost perfect sync.

Flash mobs were born in 2003. The first ones were simply social experiments that were undertaken as a sort of lighthearted exploration of the culture of conformity. The concept became an immediate sensation as flash mobs began to organize and perform everywhere to bring attention to important social issues.

Flash Mobs Can Be Customized For Any Type Of Event - Even Marriage Proposals!

They have continued to become more and more popular as a means to give voice to all types of issues such as conditions in other countries, civil rights, and social issues. Flash mobs are a way to spread the word about anything without having to spend a ton of money or have a famous face for endorsement. They are an extremely effective way to initiate conversations about important issues anytime, anywhere, Stay Inspired continues.

Flash mobs have the ability to ask questions as well as answering them, questions such as, “Will you marry me?” Yes, flash mobs have even been organized and used for ultra-elaborate and super-memorable marriage proposals. What a story to be able to tell the kids someday!

The Students From Sint-Joris College Made An Unforgettable Impression

When 1,400+ students broke out in song and dance, needless to say, a large crowd gathered around to watch them. Soon, dozens of people were snapping photos and recording videos of the amazing performance. The students had dedicated untold hours to choreographing and rehearsing their performance and it certainly paid off. There is even a YouTube video that shows the making of the Eindhoven flash mob’s “Waka Waka” performance. It includes clips of the students hard at work practicing in fields, in the dance studio, and even in the classroom.

The students’ excitement and enthusiasm quickly spread throughout the crowd of spectators. Everyone watching was caught up in the magic of the moment when the flash mob lit up the Piazza Center. Many people found themselves singing and dancing along with complete strangers. The students were thrilled that all their hard work paid off and had such a positive effect on everyone.

The Magic Of Dance Has Always Been Used As A Form Of Expression And Communication

From as far back as recorded time, the motion of dance has been used between humans to convey messages. The video of the Sint-Joris College flash mob is a perfect example of the power of music and dance. To date, the video of the performance at the Piazza Center on that day in 2011 has had more than 31,000,000 views, and the people of Kenya are likely grateful for the results the flash mob has brought to their country’s issues, just as it was created to do.
