Crossing Guard Leads Children To Her Parked Car, Not Realizing She'd Been Caught On Camera By Suspicious Teacher

In this uncertain world we live in, kids can find themselves in some dangerous situations. One example would be kids walking to and from school. Though we try to remind them of the dangers of traffic, kids don't always remember to look both ways before crossing the street. That's why we owe so much to those dedicated crossing guards who do their best to help children stay safe as they travel back and forth to their destination during the school year.

Crossing guards stand like sentinels at busy intersections as carefree children make their way to class each morning. As drivers speed down the roads on their way to work these crossing guards are an essential element in student protection. On lovely fall and spring days, you can understand why these guards would feel perky and chipper. But what about during those chilling winter days?

Though not often thought of as a cold weather zone, the winter days in North Carolina can plunge into surprisingly low temperatures.

You could imagine that the safety guards on duty in such weather may not feel much like smiling to either the kids or passersby.

One crossing guard assigned to help students at Trask Middle School, however, doesn't let the cold winter weather chill her spirits. The kids affectionately refer to her as Ms. Minnie. This veteran crossing guard has stood faithfully at her post for 19 years.

Local area high school teacher Kayla Thomas was surprised one day to see Ms. Minni leading some of the students over toward her car! Thomas snapped a photo on her phone as she looked with wonder at the scene that was unfolding before her eyes.

Right over by the trunk of her vehicle Ms. Minnie had set up some racks including very useful items for the students to choose from.

Kayla posted the picture of Ms. Minnie and wrote the following message on her Facebook wall:

“Today I noticed that she had a rack of coats by her car, and signs saying “free coats” posted everywhere. It took every ounce of restraint in my body not to put the car in park and get out and hug this woman, to thank her for using her free time to keep our students safe and for giving coats to people who may not have them. There is still good in this world, despite what we see and hear every day. People like her give the rest of us hope that we can all live in peace and focus on the things that really matter.”

This loving crossing guard goes out of her way to help provide for the wellbeing of the kids she so thoughtfully guards each and every school day. She brings coats for them and doesn't want any payment for them.

At the beginning of the year, she has also been known to distribute school supplies. On rainy days, it's umbrellas that this Good Samaritan guard brings to hand out so the kids can stay dry. It seems like she's always thinking about those kids and doing what she can to go above and beyond the call of duty to help them!
