Many young people who realize they are gay or bisexual at a young age have a great deal of difficulty coming out to their parents. Even more unfortunate is the reaction that some parents have. A few even go to extremes to attempt to make their children “normal” again, instead of listening to them and their needs.

One creative dad truly set the bar for how parents should respond when their children are brave enough to come out to them. He has been fully supportive of his daughter since day one and worked hard to make sure she felt happy and comfortable in her skin as she grew into an adult.

Maybe you have heard about a thing called bi-sitting? People on social media have joked about how bisexual people don’t know how to sit properly. Meanwhile, Má Matiazi, a Brazilian artist, has doodled a sketch of what he called a “Bi-Chair” and she shared it on Instagram. People immediately took notice and the doodle quickly went viral.

That was when Israel Walker, a father from Iowa, decided to get creative in his support for his daughter’s bisexuality. He wanted to use his skills in woodworking to make Má Matiazi’s doodle a reality.

As he explained on Facebook, he reached out to the artist via social media to see if she would mind if he turned the doodle into an actual chair. She was thrilled about the idea and Walker got to work building the “Bi Chair” for “bi-sitting.”

He absolutely nailed it, as Israel Walker had a lot of experience in woodworking. The chair is multi-leveled and has two separate tiers. There are also two armrests on it, one that sits regularly at the height you would typically rest your arm on, and one that sits up as high as your shoulder.

Mr. Walker posted the picture on Facebook of the chair on his front lawn and included a caption regarding how his daughter identifies as bisexual and stated how his daughter thinks that LGBTQ+ people couldn’t sit “normally.” The adorable photo of the bi-sexual chair went viral almost immediately.

How empowering is it to see a dad support his daughter’s sexuality so passionately that he would take the time to build the bi-chair for her? Pass this along to anyone who could benefit from seeing how awesome this dad is!
