Courteney Cox Felt ‘Hurt’ By Her ‘Friends’ Emmy Snub, But Is Finally Getting The Recognition She Deserves

Courteney Cox rose to fame as the hilarious Monica Geller on the beloved sitcom "Friends," which aired from 1994 to 2004. Even after the series ended, Cox continued to be a big player in Hollywood. She starred in the series "Dirt" and "Cougar Town," and has appeared in many movies over the years, including the "Scream" franchise.

Outside of her acting work, Cox is known for her close friendship with "Friends" alum Jennifer Aniston. The two often show their support for one another's work.

In her personal life, Cox was married to fellow actor David Arquette for over 11 years. The couple got married in June 1999 and had a daughter named Coco Arquette in 2004. Coco now practically looks like her mother's twin.

However, sadly Cox's relationship with David didn't last, and the two finalized their divorce in 2013 after three years of separation. Nevertheless, they remain close and are still business partners together in their production company, Coquette Productions.

Well known for her gorgeous looks, Cox is often in the spotlight. Despite the fact that she's absolutely stunning, she wasn't immune to the Hollywood pressure of trying to remain youthful-looking. This led her to seek out cosmetic procedures, including facial fillers, which ultimately resulted in a look that was almost unrecognizable. After some time, the actress decided to dissolve the fillers and has since opted for a much more natural look.

Cox also struggled with the fact that she was only one of the main six "Friends" stars to not be nominated for an Emmy. However, she is now more confident and more determined than ever.

Cox met Arquette in 1996, and the two had an immediate spark. Then still a bright-eyed up-and-coming name in Hollywood, Cox met her future husband on the set of the first-ever "Scream" movie. The unlikely pair got hitched three years later in a star-studded ceremony at the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. However, after 11 years of marriage, Cox and Arquette announced they would be trialing a separation. They officially divorced in 2013.

Later that year, Cox began her relationship with McDaid. A year later, the couple got engaged but called off their engagement in 2015. They then got back together shortly after. According to the actress, their relationship became better after they ended their engagement.

With McDaid living in England, the couple could have space when they needed it and decided they were better together. The pair have stayed together since, despite the long distance between them. "I mean, it's expensive," Cox shared. "That's an expensive relationship! We go back and forth a lot."

When they announced that they were back together in 2016, Cox said: "Well, we love each other and we are — yes, we're happy!"

As for McDaid, he also had kind words to say about his love for Cox back in 2016. "I don't know if you can put a label on what makes us work so well," he said. "But I know that I've never loved like I love this woman. So if that's enough, then that's enough."

With a laugh, Cox joked: "How do I go after that? It's poetic. I'm literally going to sound like a toad!"

In a candid interview with New Beauty, Cox opened up about the work she'd had done, which she explained was a result of "trying so hard to keep up" as a woman getting older in Hollywood. She admitted that she "actually made things worse" in her quest to remain youthful. She told the publication:

"I've had all my fillers dissolved. I'm as natural as can be. I feel better because I look like myself. I think that I now look more like the person that I was."

Cox revealed that it was a friend who alerted her to the fact that she might have gone overboard. They told her "Whoa, no more!" but she hadn't had anything done in six months. "I didn't realize," she said about how far she'd gone with the procedures. She said that she wasn't totally unaware that she looked unlike herself, but because pictures are always a bit different from real life, she didn't think much of it.

Cox didn't rule out future treatments but said that she does "want to stay natural." In the interview, she also spoke about other ways she maintains her great skin, which included laser treatments and microneedling.

Back in 2016, the actress opened up to adventurer and TV presenter Bear Grylls about the pressures of "being a woman in this business." She also admitted to having regretted getting work done. She said:

"I think there's a pressure to maintain (your looks) not just because of fame, but just being a woman in this business ... Getting older, I don't think that's the easiest thing. But I have learned lessons. I think I was trying to keep up with getting older and trying to chase that. It's something you can't keep up with."

Cox has also opened up about what it was like being the only main cast member from “Friends” to not be nominated for an Emmy Award. Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc were all nominated for one during their time on the hit sitcom over its run of 10 seasons.

During an interview with Howard Stern, the women from “Friends” sat down to talk about their time on the show, and Cox revealed more about her Emmy snub. “When every cast member was nominated but me, it definitely hurt my feelings,” the actress admitted. She continued:

“The only thing that made me feel good – because they’ve all won and they’ve gotten so many accolades – I got nominated for ‘Cougar Town’ the first year for a Golden Globe. I want to say, ‘Yeah, who cares?’ (but) it meant everything to me.”

Thankfully, Cox’s former co-stars and current friends always believed in her. “You were brilliant, Courteney,” Aniston told her.

In fact, Cox even felt guilty about being nominated for a different award right in front of Aniston and Kudrow. “The three of us were in my house in Santa Monica and I got nominated for a People’s Choice Award,” Cox said. “I remember thinking, ‘Oh, I feel horrible.’ Cut to: There goes that. Shouldn’t have felt bad.”

Still, despite the competition of the acting world, the women stayed bonded. “We were so excited,” Aniston said about Cox’s nomination. “And I’ll never forget it came through your fax machine upstairs.”

In 2021, Cox finally received an Emmy nomination for “Friends,” albeit for “Friends: The Reunion.” Through it all, Cox has continued to find herself in an ever-changing world and has continued to grow more and more confident as the years progress.
