Those who rescue and care for animals are truly amazing people. When an animal is in danger, you can bet that good people will be more than willing to lend a hand. Recently, an animal rescue group in Argentina proved that very often, the key to helping animals is persistence.

Fundacion Fauna Argentina, or FFA, is a volunteer rescue group that serves animals in the nation of Argentina. Earlier this week, the FFA got a call about an animal in distress. Residents of the town of Mar del Plata informed the group that a sea lion in the region had a rubber tire stuck around his neck. The group immediately dispatched a team of volunteers to help the animal.

Assessing the situation, the FFA made its first attempt to remove the tire from the poor creature’s neck with the help of one of its brave volunteers. Crafting a special tool that consisted of a hook attached to a long pole, one of the group’s volunteers went into the herd to try to help the sea lion. Approaching the animal from the front, the young man was able to hook the tire with the special tool but was not strong enough to remove it.

As the young man struggled to free the sea lion from the rubber tire, the animal got frightened, dragging the volunteer into the middle of the herd. Because of the danger to the volunteer’s wellbeing, the FFA had to abort its rescue attempt. In a second attempt, volunteers approached the sea lion from behind a fence with a similar tool but were once again unable to remove the tire.

The next day, the group decided on a different approach for their third attempt. In the third try, the same young man once again approached the distressed sea lion, this time with a hook attached to a rope. Putting the hook around the tire, the young man and several other volunteers pulled with all their might. Just as hope began to fade, the tire popped off the sea lion’s head as it scurried through the sand.

Celebrating a job well done, the FFA later helped another sea lion on the same beach, removing a wire that was stuck around the animal’s belly. The group later removed other debris from the beach so that it would not be able to harm other animals.

The FFA’s rescue of the sea lion soon went viral as thousands of people watched footage of the event on the group’s Instagram page. In all, the FFA’s commitment to helping animals is a testament to human decency and proof that people can accomplish anything when they never give up.
