Couple Who Parted Ways In The 1950s Revive Their Love Story 60 Years Later

We all love hearing stories about second chances at love. Love is sweeter the second time around, after all. But there’s simply something magical about two people crossing paths with each other again after a long time. Some may call it a coincidence. But for those who believe in the magic of love, it’s fate. For Ron Owen and Ruth Holt, it’s the latter.

Owen and Holt first met in the 1960s while working at an office. “We were in the same office. We were very good friends and he started taking me out,” Holt told ITV’s The Morning in an interview.

While they dated for a year, life had other plans for them. They eventually had to part ways as Holt decided to pursue his singing career.

“To be honest, it was just a farewell and hopefully I would see her again, but town took me to show business,” Owen said.

So, Owen went to work for a cruise liner and went around the world. Holt, on the other hand, married and had two children.

But even if Owen left, they have never forgotten about each other. Holt said Owen sent her Valentine’s card, and she kept it even all those years they were apart.

“I did keep it for many years. I had a little box with a few treasures in and that was then and I used to look through it occasionally and think about him,” Holt said.

Having described Owen as "always the one" for her, Holt stumbled upon her former beau in what could probably be the most fascinating way – almost like a fairytale and one that most of us only see in the movies.

Holt said she came across Owen in 2014 playing music at the communal hall of the housing complex where she lived of all places, 60 years since they last saw each other.

“I was in my bungalow one day when my sister came to see me. She had been at a party in the communal hall and said there was a 'great singer on' and mentioned something about a man named Ronnie,” Holt said, as quoted in a story published in the Daily Mail.

“I rushed to see our warden Linda to check if it was, who I thought it was and she said it was Ron Owen. I couldn't believe it,” she added.

Holt then decided to pay Owen a visit in his pad. Then, they started catching up with each other. Along their conversation, they started going on a trip down memory lane.”We started talking straight away and it was like we had never been apart. We met up a few times for a chat and a drink and it went from there. I couldn't believe I had found him again,” Holt said.

But the spark never went away. “I don’t think I ever really cared for anybody else like I did for him,” Holt told ITV’s This Morning. To which Owen answered: “I've never been this happy.”

In 2018, four years after their chance encounter, they decided to spend the rest of their lives together after Owen popped the question on live television, with Holt responding with a "yes."

It seems like that their love story is the true definition of the word fate – and we couldn’t be happier for the couple!
