Couple Who Fed Homeless Person From Their Pickup Truck Got Dragged On The Internet

Kindness comes in many ways. Some do it in return to give back for receiving plenty more than others, but some just do it out of the goodness of their hearts.

In the United States, there are a lot of food banks located in all 50 states. Most people who volunteer to feed the hungry are people who are passionate about helping those in need. But for some, they do not need an organization or a community to reach out to those in need; some do it on their own, in their specific capacities, in their own time.

In social media, seeing people help others can make one’s heart flutter – for some, it is even a reminder that kindness and goodness are still present in society. However, many people tend to exploit doing good things to be complimented and praised on social media – doing things in exchange for attention and veneration.

For example, a now-viral video on social media posted on the Stupid Food thread on Reddit shows a couple who decided to feed the hungry by offering them instant ramen cooked at the back of their pickup truck, with the title: “Kindhearted woman feeds hundreds out of her truck bed."

There’s no danger in giving food to those in need, but one should make sure that they are giving good more than harm. While giving food at the back of a pickup truck seemed to be ideal for mobility purposes, the couple’s makeshift cooking area was literally her pickup truck. She lined the space with a huge plastic tent – dumping water and what seemed to be more than a hundred packs of instant ramen while letting it simmer in the heat of the blazing sun.

The woman’s unsanitary preparation grabbed the attention of people on social media, with hundreds of users slamming the couple for her disrespect to food and their rather unconventional way of cooking it.

The woman wrapped a plastic bag on her shoes while standing on the asphalt road to cover her foot as he stepped into the actual soup behind her truck. Using a huge spatula, she stirred the noodles. She even put canned green beans, bags of corn kernels, a heaping bowl of artificial chicken seasoning, a tub of butter which she described to be a family recipe of hers, and jars of parsley flakes and minced onion.

Driving around their neighborhood with their literal “food truck,” the woman’s husband stopped by what is presumed to be a homeless man and offered him two bowls of instant ramen. Just as the man was scooping noodles, the couple gifted him $20 dollars, making the man smile even more.

However, Reddittors found the whole interaction laughable and maddening – pointing out how unhygienic the preparation was.

“Good thing she put the garbage bag boots on while standing on the road to give it that asphalt zing,” a user sarcastically commented.

“It’s vaguely exploitive when it’s real. This is a selfish act that wouldn’t even be funny if they were shooting for satire,” another shared.

“I hate this. Just acting like it’s totally okay to treat other human beings like this. Here have some disgusting, contaminated slop. Look at me feeding the homeless for internet clout,” another said

Turns out, the original uploader who posted it on YouTube admitted that the video was indeed scripted, YourTango reported. Despite the disclaimed, people all over the internet have continued to slam them for making a video at the expense of making fun of people in need.
