Couple Was 'Jumping In Disbelief' After Welcoming First Baby Girl In The Family In 138 Years

Every couple has a dream of building a family of their own. Some couples wish to have a baby boy, while others dream of having a baby girl. Then again, there are also others who do not mind whether the baby to comes into their lives is a boy or a girl. Of course, there could be many reasons why a couple wants a baby boy or a girl. Perhaps someone in the couple never had the chance to have a baby sister; that’s why they want to have a baby girl. Or perhaps someone never had a boy in the family; that’s why having a baby boy has always been the dream.

At the end of the day, every couple has several reasons to feel grateful, regardless of whether they welcome a baby boy or a baby girl. After all, not every couple is gifted with a baby. But one couple has been gifted with a baby girl, which wasn’t just a dream come true for them but even for past generations in the man’s family.

In April 2023, a couple from Caledonia, Michigan, named Carolyn and Andrew Clark welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Audrey. But she wasn’t just an ordinary baby; she was a blessing that was over almost a century and a half in the making. Yes, she is the first baby girl ever to be welcomed on Andrew’s side of the family since 1885.

"It was a huge surprise for all of us,” Andrew told Good Morning America in an interview, recalling what they felt when they found out about the awesome news.

"I'm like, 'Oh, it's a 50-50 chance every time. What do you mean?' He goes, 'No, legitimately, we have not had a girl in our direct line in over 100 years,’” Carolyn added.

But Carolyn couldn’t believe what she had just heard, so she asked Andrew’s parents to confirm the details.

"I asked his parents to confirm that information and they're like, 'Oh yeah, no, we haven't had a girl in our direct line.' He's had uncles and cousins that have had girls but in his lineage, there has not been a girl,” Carolyn said.

Not only was Audrey the first girl ever to be born in Andrew’s lineage, but she also came after a little over two years since they went through one of the most trying times in their relationship as a couple. Back in 2021, Carolyn suffered a miscarriage. Then again, Carolyn admitted that all she wanted was to have a healthy baby.

"When we found out we were pregnant, we honestly didn't care if we were having a boy or girl at that point. We just were thankful to be pregnant and just praying for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby," Carolyn said. "It was just icing on the cake that it was a girl."

To mark the celebration, they gathered the members of their families with custom-made cookies to reveal the sex of the baby.

“Everyone was just screaming and jumping in disbelief,” Carolyn told News Center Maine.

As if her family couldn’t be the luckiest people on Earth, she was also born on St. Patrick’s Day! Indeed, she is the lucky charm in her family. On their life blessing, Carolyn said: "We're so happy that she's finally here and once again, that she's healthy and that everything went well with the delivery."
