Couple Receives Rude Note Shaming Them For Unpainted House But Kindness Of Neighbors Prevails

A couple in Gloucester, Massachusetts, was upset after receiving an anonymous note from one of their neighbors in July 2020. The note stated that their house needed to be painted and that it was an eyesore to the rest of the neighborhood. While the couple's house may not have looked that beautiful on the outside, the people living in it had kind hearts and were having some personal struggles. They each had their own medical complications that they were battling. Although receiving the note initially hurt the couple's feelings, the way the rest of their neighborhood rallied beside them made them feel appreciated.

After they received the note, the couple was a bit confused as to why someone would even write it in the first place, as it was pretty obvious that their house needed help with some touch-ups. The paint was chipped away, and many parts of the structure needed to be fixed as well, such as the roof, windows, and side-paneling. The couple's sadness and frustration quickly turned into appreciation and gratitude for their fellow neighbors when the people in their community started collecting donations to help with the home renovations.

The couple was blown away by the sheer kindness and generosity of their neighbors. As of June 2021, the community is still working together to help the couple with fixing up their home. Although the entire ordeal began with a note full of rudeness and negativity, the overwhelming kindness of the neighbors took over and prevailed, bringing the tight-knit community even closer together.

The Kindness Of Their Community

Jimmy Curcuru received an anonymous note in his mailbox in July 2020 that stated: "Please Paint Me! Eyesore -- Your Neighbors. Thanks!" During an interview with WCVB, Jimmy said what hurt him the most was that the neighbor didn't even sign the note, and instead opted to leave it in his mailbox anonymously.

Painting the Curcuru's house was not as easy as it sounds. The Washington Post reported that both Jimmy, 71, and Marilyn, 72 have suffered some health issues, while Jimmy had heart surgery and Marilyn developed multiple sclerosis about 30 years ago, making it difficult for her to even leave their bed. "I used to enjoy working on the house when I could, but now it's hard for me to do it," Jimmy revealed. "It's not a good idea for me anymore to get up on a ladder."

Thankfully, he didn't need to. One of the neighbors started a GoFundMe page for the couple, and the donations quickly filed in. While each amount may not have been the largest chunk of change on its own, the total started adding up. "You know that these people don't have a lot of money, but they found the time to make a donation," Jimmy said. As of June 2021, the GoFundMe page has acquired over $78,000, which will be going toward new windows, new side paneling, a new roof and a fresh paint job.

The couple was completely overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of their community. "People look out for each other in Gloucester," he said. "If somebody needs some help, we just get together and do it. It's all just very heartwarming."
