Many people are aware that shelters aren't ideal places for pets. Although these places can be better than the streets or an abusive home, shelters are still crowded, dirty, and usually underfunded. There are many shelters full of homeless dogs who are awaiting the chance to be adopted.

Unfortunately, a majority of dogs will die of old age in these shelters without finding a place to call home or playing outside with friends. One Canadian couple decided to make an attempt to solve this problem. It became their mission to find, adopt, and care for overlooked shelter dogs.

Today, the couple has clearly exceeded their original goal and continue to make a positive impact. They're living the dream with a whopping 45 dogs. They even have one grey wolf.

In 2004, Mark Starmer adopted his first dog with his wife Sharon. When searching for their perfect puppy, the couple came across dozens of dogs who were patiently waiting to be adopted as well. Instead of leaving these dogs to an unknown fate, the couple decided to make some more adoptions.

The couple has since adopted 45 shelter dogs. They have even diversified their canine acquisitions with the adoption of a grey world. The couple owns a four-acre property in Canada where the dogs can run without any cares in the world. The dogs are lively, excitable, and loving. Every dog owner secretly wishes that they could own dozens of other puppies as well. It's difficult to imagine the sheer happiness that one could experience coming home to 45 different dogs. This Canadian couple is living the dog lover's dream.

Amongst their 45 dogs are one lone grey wold, four St. Bernards, 10 Siberian Huskies, one shar-pei, two poodles, and one Portuguese Water Dog.

Although the dogs can play and run outside, each of the 45 adoptees is also allowed to come inside the Starmer's home. The couple moved into a larger living space after realizing that their smaller home in Alberta wasn't suited for 45 dogs and two humans. Caring for dozens of dogs isn't cheap or easy. The couple has a significant amount of monthly bills to pay from food, grooming, veterinarian, to other costs.
