Couple Opens A Gas Station And "Hires" Rescue Dog, Gives Him A Home

Stray dogs are common in Brazil. While they are easy to overlook, many of these dogs simply need a home and someone to love them. When Sabrina Plannerer was touring the site of a gas station that was being built, she noticed a black dog wandering around. The dog was there frequently each time Sabrina visited the work site with her partner. Sabrina knew that something had to be done about the dog before the gas station opened for business.

While some people would have shooed the dog away or called animal control, Sabrina and her partner took a different approach. They made an appointment with a local vet to get him a wellness check and to bring him up to date on his vaccinations. Then, they decided to give him a home and a job at the gas station.

The dog, who they named Negao, received an official name badge and a work uniform. Negao has adopted the role of greeter at the gas station. He waits eagerly by the door for customers to approach. Then, he walks up them happily to give them a friendly greeting. The gas station’s customers love Negao, and some of the regulars have brought him treats and toys reports The Telegraph. In addition, the gas station’s staff members take Negao on walks throughout the day.

Negao’s story has a happy ending, but this is not the case for many stray dogs in Brazil. His owners have worked with Grupo FERA, which is an animal charity organization in the area, and Negao works as a canine spokesman to raise awareness in the community.
