Couple Marries Once Again When Husband Proposes To Wife He Believed To Be His Girlfriend Due To Dementia
We've all heard of wedding vow renewals. Renewing your wedding vows is an affirmation of a couple's everlasting love. While they are truly sweet and endearing, they usually do not strike much of an emotional chord for a person if they aren't part of the family.
However, wedding vow renewals do not usually happen for couples who have been dealing with a cruel type of illness – dementia. That is the case for this particular video that has been making the rounds on social media.
A Scottish woman has "remarried" her husband after he proposed to her saying that he was eager to spend the rest of his life with her. However, there was one issue. They were already married.
Bill, who is 71, and Anne, who is 69, have already been married for 12 years. They have been together for 18 years. Unfortunately, the Scottish couple has been dealing with ongoing health problems when it comes to Bill for a number of years now.
The two met back in 2001 when Bill was performing in Aberdeen, Scotland as a magician. They quickly fell in love with one another and got married in 2007. They have one daughter, Andrea.
Unfortunately, it was just a few years later that Anne started to notice that Bill was acting way out of character. She took him to their doctor where he was diagnosed with dementia. Dementia is a brain disorder that will completely change the way a person interacts with others. One of the worst side effects is loss of memory. For Bill, memory loss is a big part of his problem.
Anne vowed to stay by his side, becoming his caregiver while the disease got worse. At this point, Bill does not know her name and does not remember that they are married. After attending a wedding in the family, Bill became overcome with emotion and began to hug and kiss her in their car.
Bill finally managed to tell her that he wanted to marry her. He didn't remember that they were already married. He kept it up for days until she agreed to "tie the knot" with him- again.
