Couple Is Kicked Off Plane After They Ignored Flight Attendant's Request

It’s safe to say that flight attendants have had to deal with some unruly passengers in their days. There have been plenty of horror stories over the years, and unfortunately, they don’t seem to be stopping any time soon. It’s understandable that some passengers can get overwhelmed having to board a plane or become stressed or worried from being so high up in the sky, but it’s still up to those passengers to keep their cool during troubling times. More importantly, it’s up to the flight attendants to make sure that everyone has a safe flight.

A couple that boarded a San Diego-bound JetBlue flight on Sept. 9, 2021, was kicked off the plane prior to take-off for refusing to listen to a flight attendant’s requests. The situation quickly escalated with both the man and the woman starting shouting, trying to convince others to back them up and allow them to stay on the plane, but their efforts were to no avail. The situation got so heated that the man getting kicked off the plane even began screaming in a flight attendant’s face.

Other passengers were clearly concerned as the tension was extremely high. Fortunately, the flight attendant had remained calm and collected throughout the entire ordeal, and had the support of his other crew members and the other passengers. It wasn’t long before almost everyone on board the flight was cheering and applauding the flight attendants for being so brave and handling the tough situation so well as the unruly couple was directed toward the exit of the plane.

A video of the incident was recorded by Instagram user Alice. Alice explained that prior to boarding the plane, the couple seemed to be stumbling a bit and weren’t completely in the right state of mind. Both she and her husband refused to wear their face masks over their noses, and their son’s mask was also on incorrectly. A flight attendant on board told the couple that they needed to fix their masks and their son’s mask in order to be allowed to remain on the plane.

The airline stated that the couple was asked “multiple times but would not comply with the federal mask mandate,” as per NBC 7. In the video, the man getting kicked off the plane claimed he was only told once to fix his mask. “I respect all your rules,” he said. “Every single one of them, I respect your rules.” 

However, he continued to get more and more verbally aggressive toward the crew members, and even put his hands on one of the flight attendants. Fortunately, another flight attendant pulled him back and directed him out toward the exit. An eruption of cheering and applause burst through the plane as the other passengers were thrilled that the disruptive family was finally gone.

NBC 7 reported that the couple has since been banned from using the airline again in the future, although it is still unclear if they will face any punishment for their actions. It’s clear that the flight attendants on the plane that day did their best to de-escalate a scary situation and ultimately helped make the other passengers feel more comfortable and safe following the removal of the irate couple.
