Couple Have "Newborn" Photoshoot With Their New Baby Kitten

There's not a time in a couple's journey together that isn't more exciting than when they welcome their first child into the world. Because of the importance of this moment, many couples choose to schedule a professional photoshoot featuring themselves and their new bundle of joy. After all, it's a momentous occasion and one that any family would want to remember forever.

Lucy Schultz is a professional photographer. She's not married and she isn't a mother, but that didn't stop her from having one of these "newborn photoshoots." Alongside her boyfriend Steven, Lucy posed as an overjoyed new mother, except instead of holding a baby, she was holding her five-week-old kitten.

Lucy didn't hold back in her photoshoot. Not only do the photographs show her cradling the swaddled little kitten like a baby, but one pic shows her lying back with her legs spread as the kitten's head peeks out from between her thighs, meant to emulate a photograph of a woman giving birth.

"On 1/10/18 we welcome our first baby kitten, a neutered male DLH. He is 22" long and weighed 6 pounds 7 oz. He is already eating solid food. Name to be announced," the photo is captioned. "We are so in love."

Many internet users derived nothing but joy and laughter from Lucy's antics. "This is hilarious! As a woman who's [purposefully choosing not have children], I would love to have had a photoshoot like this with my fur babies!" one woman commented on Instagram. "Fur babies" is a popular term used by people who are choosing not to have children and instead care for their pets as they would human babies.

However, the entirety of the internet wasn't so amused. "You get this is why people hate millennials, right?" one person angrily commented on Facebook. "You can love your cat all you want, but a cat isn't a baby."

Another Facebook user agreed wholeheartedly. "It's stupid," the user snarked. "You realize your cat isn't going to car for you when you're old and [feeble,] right? You're mocking real moms.""I don't have a problem with this whole thing, but the pic where she's supposed to be giving birth to the cat is a little creepy," another user pointed out on Instagram.

Lucy and Steven aren't terribly concerned about the naysayers. Their photoshoot has gone massively viral and Lucy is thinking about starting a dedicated Instagram account for her "bundle of joy." The kitten has yet to be given a name, but Lucy and Steven say that they appreciate all of the internet's suggestions.

Furthermore, while many commenters have accused Lucy and Steven of using the cat as a replacement for a real child, it's important to note that the couple have not expressed that they don't plan to have real babies one day. The angry comments perhaps stem from the larger discussion surrounding millennials who are choosing to reproduce at a rate much lower than their parents and grandparents. However, it's not quite fair to turn this animal-loving duo into the poster children for "everything wrong with their generation."

We think that Lucy and Steven are two fun "cat parents" who should be applauded for their creativity and enthusiasm. We're sure they'll figure out the perfect name for their new kitten soon enough. Show this story to any of the crazy "cat moms" in your life!
