Couple Adopt Two Sets Of Twins In Oder To Keep The Family Together

Sep 24, 2021 by apost team

Raising children is no easy feat, but it’s a challenge that Karen and Tobias Thompson have continued to take on. Although all of their children are grown adults and have moved out, the couple decided to try their hand at raising young children and teenagers once again when they adopted two sets of twins to help keep the family together. They opened up their home and their hearts to the adorable children and showed them just how strong a family bond really could be.

The Thompson family has a long history of finding ways to come back to one another. Karen and Tobias first dated in high school but ended up going their separate ways and marrying other people. They had their own families with those spouses but found their way back to one another after both of their marriages ended. The couple from Cincinnati, Ohio, has been inseparable since 2014.

With their marriage came a beautiful moment of blending their families together, but they didn’t stop there. In 2017, they welcomed Karen’s niece and nephew — a set of twins — into their house not to just provide them with food and shelter but to give them a place to call home. Most importantly, they provided the children with plenty of love and care.

Both Karen and Tobias are now 55 years old and have continued to show just what incredible parents they really are. In September 2021, they continued growing their beautiful, blended family when they welcomed another set of twins into their home, keeping their ever-expanding family together forever.

Keeping The Children Together

Loving and caring for their respective families throughout their lives, Karen and Tobias welcomed more children into their home when they took in a set of twins after bringing in their first set back in 2017. According to WCPO, the couple dated in high school before going their separate ways and starting their own families but managed to find their way back to one another. Together they have seven adult children from their previous marriages, 27 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

In 2017, Karen and Tobias took in William and Wilnya, Karen’s twin niece and nephew, who are now both 14 years old. After they found out their younger twin sisters, 9-year-olds Sharnia and Sharleathea, were in the child welfare system, the couple knew that they needed to take them into their home as well to keep the family together. Karen and Tobias took all four children with them to the Hamilton County Probate Court on Sept. 9, 2021, and finally made their unified family official.

Hamilton County Judge Ralph Winkler reviewed the Thompsons’ case files and found that they would make absolutely amazing parents to the two sets of twins. The family proved that they would be able to provide food, clothing, a safe place to live, and plenty of love and support. “You’re a great example of what parents should be,” Wrinkler told Karen and Tobias in front of a jury full of the family’s friends and other family members.

Amber Sawyer, a Hamilton County Job & Family Services adoption caseworker, spoke on the adoptive parents’ behalf: “One of the things that stuck out to me is how much family is important to them. You can just feel the love and the bond in their home.”

Their Beautifully Blended Family

William, Wilnya, Sharnia and Sharleathea were all adopted that day by Karen and Tobias, and they have all opted to call them Gigi and Papa, according to WCPO. Winkler was sure to tell the children just how exciting their situation was since several superheroes had been adopted, too. “You guys are more like Spiderman than anything,” he told them.

“No sense splitting ‘em up,” Tobias said after the adoption was finalized. “Keep ‘em all together. Show ‘em a lot of love. That’s all they need. Love.” His wife agreed. “It’s not easy,” Karen said. “But it’s not hard either. And if you’ve got a lot of love, go ahead and give it to the children.”

When she first moved in with the Thompson family four years ago, Wilnya was told that she didn’t have to be scared or worry about anything anymore because she was going to be cared for. “And I’m safe,” she added. Sharnia spoke about how long she had been wanting to officially be part of the family. “I love my Gigi so much that I’ve been wanting to live with her since we got to her house,” she said.

The parents were just as happy to welcome the children into their hearts. “They family, and I feel like we should keep our family together,” Karen said. “We should try to, anyway.” According to WCPO, Winkler hopes that this blended family’s story will inspire other families. “Hopefully you’ll be encouraging people to adopt and take care of your family,” he said. “No matter how it’s built, it’s still your family.”
