Country Giants Willie Nelson And Patsy Cline Perform 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee'

Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson are two of the biggest names in country music. They each have remarkable talent and loyal fans. A few decades back, Willie Nelson released an extraordinary recording of the two performing the traditional gospel track Just A Closer Walk With Thee, which was originally released in 1941.

This feat was accomplished when Nelson recorded tracks over a solo rendition by Cline, according to Country Rebel. Although the two had never had the opportunity to record an album together when Cline was alive, their voices blend beautifully.

Patsy Cline had a rich, beautiful voice. During her career she was known for two standards of the country music repertoire: I Fall To Pieces and Crazy were two of Cline’s best-known hits. Through these songs, she elegantly conveys the pain of love gone awry. They also are excellent displays of the broad range of expression she commanded through her voice.

Sadly, as is the case with many stars, Cline died young. At only 30-years-old, she lost her life in a plane crash, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica. Since then, many fans and fellow country artists have lamented the songs she could have sung.

Before she died, Cline recorded a beautiful version of the hymn Just A Closer Walk With Thee. Having heard the track, Nelson turned to technology and created a duet with the late Cline.

This version features Cline and Nelson taking turns singing each of the song’s two verses. They join forces for the chorus with Nelson providing some light backing vocals. The whole performance is riveting and sounds as if they recorded it together.
