Costume Designer From The Notebook Responds To Vanessa Bryant's Eulogy Anecdote About Allie's Blue Dress

During the "Celebration of Life" memorial, widowed wife and mother, Vanessa Bryant, gave an emotional eulogy for Kobe and Gianna Bryant. During her speech, she mentioned that her husband Kobe had gifted her the physical notebook and Allie's blue dress from the 2004 film The Notebook, which had been adapted from a Nicholas Sparks book. 

Vanessa's speech revealed that her NBA husband Kobe "was truly the romantic one in [their] relationship." During her emotional eulogy Vanessa said:

"He gifted me the actual notebook and the blue dress Rachel McAdams wore in The Notebook movie. When I asked him why he chose the blue dress, he said it was because it's the scene when Allie comes back to Noah. We had hoped to grow old together like the movie."

In 2013, Vanessa shared her appreciation for the thoughtful Valentine's Day gift from her husband on her Instagram.

Much like Allie and Noah, Vanessa declared that she and Kobe "really had an amazing love story." The pair met when Vanessa was just 17-years-old. The now widow said:

"We loved each other with our whole beings. Two perfectly imperfect people making a beautiful family and raising our sweet and amazing girls."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the costume designer for The Notebook, Karyn Wagner, said that she had no idea that Kobe had purchased Allie's blue dress. As reported, Wagner said:

"When I was finished with the movie, I put the dress in a box and it went into storage."

Wagner went on to tell THR that when she watched Vanessa's eulogy she "started bawling." Wagner continued:

"I'm still drying the tears off my face. What a beautiful eulogy. I'm so honored that I was able to contribute in some small way to the history of this amazing man."
