Being a police officer means always springing into action at any emergency, even when it is your day off. This was certainly the case for John O’Rourke, a police officer who was in the Orlando area to get married. But first, he saved the day before he walked down the aisle.

O’Rourke stopped at a local donut shop called “Donuts to Go” just a few hours before he was to be married. While he was there just to get a quick breakfast, this heroic off-duty cop would soon find himself in the middle of an emergency situation.

As he stood in line at the shop, he noticed that there was a huge commotion coming from the nearby dining room. He quickly realized that it was coming from a 3-year-old girl who was in the middle of having a seizure.

O’Rourke realized that the paramedics had not yet been called. He quickly sprang into action. Telling others near him to call 911, he ran over to the little girl to administer first aid. After a number of minutes performing CPR, the little girl finally regained consciousness.

Soon after, the paramedics arrived at the shop. However, thanks to the off-duty police officer, the 3-year-old was just fine.

O’Rourke ended up walking back to his car to compose himself. He said he just sat by himself in the car trying to process everything that had happened, according to an online statement from the local police force.

He realized he had saved the life of a young child simply because he wanted donuts. He even saw the humor of it happening in a donut shop.

Luckily, the little girl was fine, and the wedding was still on. His fiancée, Virginia, was waiting for him at the church. When family and friends heard about the encounter, they weren’t shocked at what O’Rourke had done.

Not only is he a first responder, he is also a hero. We are so glad that he was at the right place at the right time.

Who knows how this story would have turned out if he had not stopped for breakfast that morning? We are betting that the parents of the young girl are forever grateful that he decided to stop at that particular shop. What did you think of this heroic story?
