Most people go to work expecting nothing unusual to happen. For police officers, however, the unusual is what they expect. The unexpected, however, doesn't need to be a bad thing. That's what one police officer learned one cold winter's night.

Officer Matt Froiseth serves the town of Platteville, Wisconsin. One Sunday night, with a full moon shining above, he heard the cries of a kitten. It was winter and there was snow everywhere. He didn't think he could find the little feline in all that snow.

The officer noticed a ditch with about three feet of snow piled in it according to the Platteville Police Department Facebook. He could tell he was getting closer because cries were getting louder. They were also getting more desperate. Matt climbed down into the ditch and caught a glimpse of a tiny black kitten stuck in the snow. He dug through the wet mush and picked up the wet little one. It took it a few moments to calm down and stop mewing.

The kitten decided the big warm human was a perfect thing to cuddle against. It quickly fell to sleep nestled against its human rescuer. Officer Froiseth decided to find the little one a new home after a visit to the vet. But, of course, that visit would have to wait until the kitten got done with its nap.

The vet gave the kitten a clean bill of health. The officer's next assignment was to find it a new home. But, that wasn't a problem. The kitten had already made the decision. It climbed up on the officer's shoulder and wouldn't leave. It was a simple decision. The kitten went home and became part of the officer's family.

The little guy got a new name, Donut. He's become a welcome member of the officer's family. Of course, there have been some growing pains, but this kitten has found his forever home. Matt has a partner at his side and a cuddle buddy on his lap. We hope the two have many, many years for cuddling and playing.
