Collier County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Pounds was expecting the usual routine excuses when he pulled over a car that was traveling 63 MPH in a 45 MPH zone on a road in Naples, Florida. But what he heard from the driver was actually a legitimate reason for speeding.

As reported by Today, Wilfrid Jean-Louis was speeding because his wife, Fabienne Gorges, was in active labor. The pair was rushing to the hospital when Jean-Louis was pulled over at about 4:15 am last week.

The 36-year-old Jean-Louis got right to the point when Pounds approached the car. He told the officer that he was speeding because his wife, age 35, was about to give birth. In the back seat, Pounds saw Gorges writhing in pain as the labor progressed.

Pounds sprung into action right away. He called for backup and rushed back to his patrol car to retrieve a blanket and gloves. Pounds has been on the job for 26 years and this was the first time that he has ever had an active labor situation on his hands. Thankfully, the father of three was prepared for the situation.

It did not take long for Gorges to deliver a healthy baby girl into the waiting hands of the deputy. Pounds said that his instinct and training kicked in but that it was the baby that did most of the work.

Jean-Louis got away with speeding that day and he is now a proud father. He was so grateful for the help of the deputy that he honored him by naming his precious baby Leila Robert Jean-Louis.
