Contractor Destroys His Own Work In Bathroom After Claiming He Wasn't Paid For His Service

No one likes to feel like they aren’t appreciated. This was especially true for a contractor in Colorado who felt he wasn’t getting the respect or the payment he deserved for all of the work he had done in a customer’s bathroom. He had put a lot of time and effort into making the bathroom look exactly how the customer wanted it to, but the customer was still unsure if everything would work properly, so she wanted to wait to pay him, resulting in a cluster of problems that followed.

Business co-owners Terry James Gregory and Jordan Cazares are contractors for Dream Home Remodels. They were hired by Amber Trucke to rebuild her bathroom shower. Trucke paid the contractors less than half of the payment they were expecting after they finished the remodel, but she wasn’t ready to pay them the other portion just yet. A lot of the plumbing had been worked on in order to transform the shower, so the customer really wanted to be able to test it out to make sure that there were no big issues. Most importantly, she wanted to make sure that the remodel was actually completed well and to her liking.

This didn’t sit well with Gregory so he decided to take matters into his own hands. He picked up a sledgehammer and decided to destroy the masterpiece he created. A video of the terrifying moment in Trucke’s home was captured and went viral in mid-September 2021, with an investigation happening behind the scenes to get to the bottom of what really happened between the customer and the contractors.

KRDO reported that Trucke had paid the contractors from Dream Home Remodels $3,330 of the $7,555 she owed to rebuild her bathroom shower. They had also fixed two ceiling fans and worked on the back door. Trucke wasn’t fully pleased with the work done by Gregory and Cazares, and wanted to inspect the plumbing more before making the final payment. The contractors were not happy with this and returned to her home with a crowbar, a sawzall and a sledgehammer.

According to KRDO, Trucke’s roommate had let them in while Trucke was at work, assuming that they were just going to pick up their materials or fix anything that wasn’t finished yet. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Gregory had made his way to the bathroom to destroy the shower he had invested so much time in. “I put weeks into this, thousands of dollars into this,” Gregory yelled in the now-viral video as he smashed the shower tiles and walls with a sledgehammer.

“Watching it just brings tears to my eyes,” Trucke said. “It makes me sick, it makes me scared. This is more than just trashing my bathroom, my sense of safety is gone.” However, Cazares said the story was fabricated. She said, “There was no displeasure expressed, and we proceeded to ask for payment on the project by the end of the day. Communication broke further after that and resulted in our company repossessing a tile shower.”

Moving forward, Trucke said she will make sure to carefully examine people before letting them in her home. “Obviously people are sometimes not what they seem, and that was certainly the case this time,” she said. She plans to take the company to small claims court.
