Contestant On Talent Show Manages To Change Simon Cowell’s Opinion On “Worst Song In The World”

Known for his sheer bluntness and fearlessness when it comes to speaking his mind, Simon Cowell is notorious for being one of the harshest and most critical judges on the competition series “America’s Got Talent.” Alongside fellow judges Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum, Cowell’s opinions have been known to cut through contestants like a knife, as he has never been one to shy away from making his voice heard. From singing to dancing to acts full of danger and magic, Cowell has seen it all on the competition series and knows talent when he sees it.
One contestant on the show tried to change the headstrong judge’s mind with a performance of one of Cowell’s least favorite songs. Jimmie Herrod, a 30-year-old music teacher from Portland, Oregon, chose to audition for “America’s Got Talent” with the song “Tomorrow” from the musical “Annie.” Unbeknownst to him, Cowell had plenty of disdain for the upbeat and optimistic tune, leading to Herrod feeling even more pressure to put on the performance of his life.
Knowing that not only did he have to showcase his talent, but also change Cowell’s mind, Herrod geared up to sing his heart out in front of the judges and audience. On top of this, he already had stiff competition against him, as multiple other musical acts had already gone through to the next round. After singing the joyous lyrics with his incredibly powerful yet beautiful voice, Herrod did his best to not just impress the three other judges, but to do the impossible and change Cowell’s mind.

Full of nerves and excitement, Herrod claimed his spot behind the microphone stand as he was gearing up to perform in front of the “America’s Got Talent” judges. Before he could even start singing, Cowell expressed his distaste for his audition song, “Tomorrow.” “Do you know that is my worst song in the world?” Cowell asked the contestant. Herrod looked shocked and frightened but didn’t have another song prepared, so he went along with his original plan and performed “Tomorrow,” much to Cowell’s disapproval.
Upon just singing the first few notes of the song, Herrod was already receiving looks of surprise as people listened to his delicate yet professional voice. Vergara’s jaw dropped as she continued to listen to the beautiful melody of the song. “Wow!” Mandel exclaimed after hearing Herrod hit an impressive note. Closing his eyes and smiling, Herrod lost himself in the music and he continued to sing.
With a powerful drawn-out note to complete the performance, Herrod earned a deafening round of cheers and applause from the audience and judges. Even Cowell had a smile on his face! After receiving a standing ovation from Cowell, Mandel and Klum, the contestant was given even more praise from the most critical judge. “It’s not my worst song anymore,” Cowell said happily, completely blown away by the stellar performance he just witnessed. “Unbelievable.”
In a surprising turn of events, Vergara revealed that she didn’t actually like the audition all that much. “I loved it,” she exclaimed and pushed the golden buzzer. Confetti fell from the ceiling as everyone cheered for Herrod, as he had just made his way to the live audition round of the competition show, bringing him one step closer to winning the $1 million prize.
