The day before Thanksgiving was going like any Wednesday - that is until Byron Campbell saw smoke pouring out of the windows of an apartment complex. It was something he thought he would never see.

Even though he wasn't a resident of the complex, Byron still stopped his car and ran towards the building. The 21-year-old started knocking on doors trying to get people out.

The flames grew while the residents worked together to get as many people out of the building as possible.

While working to get others out, Campbell heard what he thought was an infant's cry. He looked up the side of the building and saw a young woman trying to save her baby's life.

Shuntara Thomas was trying to get her 1-year-old out of the building, but couldn't get out of the apartment. She was asking everyone below if someone would catch her baby.

Byron didn't hesitate. He told her, "Trust me, I'll catch her!"

The 27-year-old mother took his word on faith, dropping her crying daughter down into the arms of a stranger. He caught the baby girl after she dropped three stories.

After it was all over, the young mother was so relieved. She didn't want her daughter to die. When she heard Byron's words, she didn't even think and dropped the girl into his arms.

Byron's only focus was on catching the falling infant. And he was successful. He caught baby girl, Kirsten, in his arms, safe and sound. He gave the coughing, crying infant to a nearby woman and continued trying to rescue others.

Another resident of the apartment complex witnessed the miraculous catch. Charlie Wilson told reports that the entire event was horrific. But, it showed that you have to trust others in this world.

The mother recognized Byron's assistance with saving her daughter's life. While the apartment is completely destroyed, the family is safe and together. That is what counts.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the 40 apartment residents who found themselves without a home.
