Dogs have been 'man's best friend' for thousands of years. Over decades and decades of evolution, humans and canines have developed the closest bond that exists across two different species.

Dogs and humans have learned to cooperate in an efficient and meaningful way. Humans have developed such a close connection with these animals that they are an integral part of our daily life. We keep dogs as pets, service animals, and even use them to fight crime.

Miner is the name of one such dog that works as a K-9 officer. He was placed out of work after requiring extensive surgery. Fortunately, a charity paid his entire medical bill. This German Shepherd has been working at the Greenwood Village Police Department for several years. He is a well-respected officer who has developed a connection with his fellow colleagues both human and canine. Miner recently suffered an internal blockage from shards of a toy that he consumed.

Removing the toy required extensive surgery that placed Miner out of commission. Back the Blue K-9 Force is an organization that seeks to support dogs that work as police officers in Colorado. They offered to help Miner through his medical process.

Jennifer Leggatt co-founded Back the Blue K-9 Force with a few colleagues. She was concerned with Miner's blockage as there are several health complications that could arise. In an interview with CBS Colorado, she asked viewers to keep Miner in their prayers during his surgery and recovery process.

Miner's surgery went smoothly, he is currently enjoying his time off and should be back to work within a few weeks. Back the Blue K-9 Force decided to cover the cost of the entire surgery. He is thankful for the surgery and can move a lot better without the blockage. The organization is in business because they truly care for the dogs. They acknowledge the important role that police play in their local community.

At first, Jennifer and her friends were only hoping to raise funds to purchase protective vests for dogs working on the police force. In the past, they were only protected by their thin layer of fur.

That initial effort eventually transformed into the non-profit that exists today. Back the Blue K-9 Force continues to provide protective gear. They also buy police dogs for the local departments.
