Music is a common denominator that can bring people from all over together, no matter what differences they might have.

One South American musical group is using that common denominator to create spaces where everyone is accepted. They bring people together regardless of their differences. Everyone is accepted as unique.

When AAINJAA comes to town, people flood the streets to enjoy the fun festival they inspire. There are no differences when you are dancing and singing in the streets.

Now, when you are talking about musical ensembles, you likely think of 20 to 25 people at most. AAINJAA doesn't think so small. They take ensemble playing to entirely new level with more than 100 members of the band. They use drums, shakers, and tambourines to bring joy and happiness to the crowds that flock to see them.

Since being uploaded last summer to YouTube, their video has garnered more than 44 million views. Not a surprise given the energy and fun that seems to jump off the screen. The music itself is from a style known as batucada. It uses a fast-paced, repetitive sound of multiple percussion instruments. It has influences from Brazil and Africa at its roots.

The ensemble's style brings batucada music together with dance. As they are playing their instruments, each member of the group brings arm movements into the mix, mimicking waves. Add in some energetic hair spinning, and the entire routine takes on a beautiful complexity.

Take a look at the crowd. They are definitely doing something right if people are sitting on the shoulders of others just to get a better view. Everyone else is getting grabbing the action on their phones.

AAINJAA comes from the indigenous Wuayuunaiki language in Columbia. It roughly translates as "to do, to build, or to manufacture." They've been together since spring of 2013 under this name.

Homero Cortez, the founder of the roup, has managed to gather over 1000 members in both Medellin and Bogota for his ensemble. Talk about a way to brighten the world.
