When you are confronted with a life-or-death situation you either leap into action of you may freeze. The flight or fright response kicks in and you are left with a choice to make in just seconds. You may be scared out of your mind and not be able to think clearly about the situation.

For many people, an emergency causes their mind to kick into the fight mode, even when that person doesn't have any type of self-defense training to fall back on. The adrenaline in the body kicks in and makes the mind focus. That is exactly what happened for a college student from South Carolina when she realized that her life was in danger.

A number of kidnappings and robberies were occurring on the campus of the University of South Carolina. They mostly happened off-campus at housing sites, where students like Jordan lived. Luckily, quick thinking and the ability to operate a stick shift likely saved Jordan Dinsmore's life that night.

When Jordan got out of her car at her campus one day, she was accosted by three different men as she emerged from her vehicle. They forced her back into the vehicle and one suspect ran when they realized that they could not operate a stick shift. The other two made Jordan drive to the closest ATM. They also informed her that they were planning to sexually assault her reports The State.

According to Jordan, her mother was almost assaulted in college herself. Luckily, she was able to fight her assailant off before he hurt her. Beth Turner, Jordan's mother, told her daughter that she should try to keep an attacker in public view for as long as possible.

Jordan also came up with her own plan. When they got back into the car after visiting the ATM, she did not put her seatbelt back on. As she drove onto the road, Jordan quickly looked around her for oncoming traffic. When the coast was clear enough, she leaped out of the moving vehicle. Jordan flagged down another car and was safe!

Thanks to her quick thinking and her mother's advice, Jordan came out of a terrible situation well. Her mom is really proud of her and said, "I knew she was a tough, smart, bright girl. I didn't know she had this in her though" to WCBD News. Jordan could then continue her studies as a criminal justice student, a very apt major for Jordan.
