We can all remember a day as children when we could not do without our favorite toy. This toy was often a doll for many little girls. But as time went on, we often outgrew our favorite dolls and they were packed away somewhere as a keepsake.

The cycle continues and many of these toys were thrown away when it was time to make room in an attic or garage. Unbeknownst to our parents, there were occasions they were discarding dolls and other toys that possessed real value.

If you were a young girl in the 80s, it is likely you were given an American Girl doll. And if you were a kid that refused to part with your American Girl doll, you may be able to exchange it now for a wad of cash.

The dolls are still being sold at 22 stores across the globe. There are many options to choose from for girls of all ages. The offerings range for the miniature dolls just perfect for younger girls to the eighteen-inch dolls for older collectors. The 18-inch dolls are customized to represent important historical figures. The dolls can be further customized to the likeness of the little girl who possesses the doll.

Dolls from American Girl are quite common today. However, there was a time when these dolls were rarer to see. The line of dolls was first introduced in 1986. At this time, Kirsten Larson, Molly McKintire, and Samantha Parkington were the only three doll offerings.

There were no shops to visit for American Girls dolls in the early days of the company. Both the dolls and any accessories were available only by mail order. The first three dolls from the company became popular despite company growing pains. However, the three dolls are no longer offered by the company.

Samantha was the first of the three dolls to be retired in 2009. Kirsten was retired a year later and Molly was retired in 2013. These circumstances have resulted in these three dolls becoming a rare find. However, if you or someone close to you has an American Girl doll from the 1986 catalog, you could be in line to receive a considerable amount of money.

This is only true if you possess both the doll and original accessories. These items are required to be in good condition. Sets of the dolls have sold for as much as $10,000 on eBay. So if you think you may still have a doll or two from 1986, it is well worth the effort to take a look.

Did you search through your old dolls to see if you had one or more from the original American Girl collection? Make sure to pass this along to your friends and family. The act may earn you a hefty tip.
